Not a new thread theme but thought that after driving this car for 1.5 years I'd share my most useful day-to-day screen layouts - including Diamond button assignations. My car does have HUD and the Passenger Screen which influence my layout. I also have a separate HomeLink solution so despite it working in the car I don't actually need it (only relevant as I previously had a Diamond button assigned to HomeLink).

Might be useful to newer owners looking for an optimal and efficient layout of the multiple info streams your car can provide.

On cross country/State trips I am always (to date) with my wife who can avail of the Passenger Screen to modify/update any planned routes using the full PCM navigation map whereas in my primary layout I only use the dash map view (traffic congestion, road works etc) and occasionally might toggle to Apple Maps via CarPlay. Waze is always on with CarPlay and feeds info from the background.

Of course all of this a very personal thing but curious what other 'long term owners' find most efficient:

2.5 years in Taycan across a 4S and a Turbo S.

Left tube: Assistance systems. Alternatively, if not using assistance systems: traffic signs.
Middle tube: Always Powermeter/Speed dial.
Right tube: Multi-display with:
  • Line 1: HV Battery SoC %
  • Line 2: HV Battery Temp (in Celsius)
  • Line 3: Compass heading
  • Line 4: Altitude
Diamond key on steering wheel: Turn on/off electric sport sound.
Diamond key on dash: Turn on/off surround cameras – usually used when pulling up to a charger and ensuring that carbon fibre nose doesn't make contact with curb or bollards.

Main screen: Full PCM native navigation.
Passenger display: Either PCM Navigation in Satellite Mode or Media Player.

Rarely use CarPlay and generally have it configured off in PCM Device Manager. Use bluetooth connection instead for phone. Always keep phone inside armrest, connected to car via Porsche branded lightening cable. I generally do not have Wifi enabled on the PCM.

I would have liked it if Compass for Chrono was an option on the regular Taycan body shape – it would have suited my roadtripping use case for Taycan and free up two lines in the multi-display tube. If I had it, I'd use one of the lines to show the 12V battery current voltage. Not sure about the additional fourth line.

You can change the display on the dash wart?

I use the diamond on wheel for track forward and diamond on dash for track back. How do you do that if you use your diamonds for other purposes?

50% of the time, I'll just use the media player on the PCM main display – and the other 50% of the time, I'll switch to the media screen on the right tube and move it there.

I really wish they'd free up some of the useless "handwriting" area on the climate control screen and put a proper media control panel in there instead. Or at least give us the option of it.

Agreed on the climate control / handwriting area - seems like a wasted opportunity to provide some extra utility. Would be nice to have Porsche Nav and media / CarPlay simultaneously on those two screens.

My guess is that the handwriting feature demoed well internally in 2018 and either: a) some influential exec still loves it or b) nobody ever uses it, therefore there is never any complaints/feedback, therefore it has just been forgotten about.

I have never once heard a Taycan owner "in-the-wild" mention it – or a dealer during a demo either for that matter.

@ciaranob Nice setup. Wondering how you have your individual mode set up? I also dislike regen so rather than do the dance to disable I have my individual mode set up as 'Sport mode minus regen'.

I want an entire PlayStation controller of diamonds on the wheel. Media control plus Sport Sound toggle. My dash diamond I use for HomeLink.

I find my homelink pops up based on GPS location really reliably (from both inside and outside my parking garage) – so have not had to link it to a button. Does yours not pop up when near your gate?

Yes actually had Individual Mode setup for all Sport Plus Plus :) but rarely ever use that so could revert to Sport but TBH the single toggle to Sport synced with left hand tapping Regen is now muscle memory!

@tigerbalm
My phone on wireless CarPlay but understand from prior posts re you desiring better usb connections for optimal sound in Burmeister or Bose. I rarely have the main PCM screen with Nav as TBH for the vast majority of my in city driving I just don't need it i.e. just a quick visual of bad traffic/road work in the center display is the most useful info for this driving situation.

I too generally don't use CarPlay that much although since they now have it playing better with the PCM and whatever you had last set up as audio source etc it is poss more useful. Main reason for it is having Waze on which is actually super useful.

EDIT_ Oops sorry for some reason responded to this despite you sending it to @satchurator :)!

Yes as I mentioned it is still configured but I don't use it - I have a separate thread on this but the issue is that the large/high and solid driveway gate I have which is some 30 ft ahead of my garage doors will interfere with the car's HomeLink signal about 30% of the time i.e. it will open the gate but not the garage door synchronously (albeit doing this 70% of the time) - I now use DoorMate (a bicycle handlebar end door opener that has a much stronger signal) - small low profile and fits in area at top of screen with my custom holder perfectly and now have 99% success in synchronous opening of both gate and garage doors. So frees up a Diamond too.

One other reason, I don't tend to use CarPlay is that I am often hopping out of the car with the iPhone to take a few snaps - and that really messes up CarPlay. Keeping things on native PCM just makes hopping in/out with my phone when car is on – more fluid and less fiddly.

Case in point – just back from a lovely forest drive.

I did try that in the hope of freeing up the dash diamond, however I didn't like that on-demand pop up feature. I found that I wanted to be able to manually operate the door more frequently than just when it appears, e.g. after futzing around in the car in closed garage before departure, or after waiting for the passengers to exit through garage before departing.

Interesting - I don't appear to have that issue in that when I get in and out I too always take my phone (whether shopping, restaurants or whatever), but I generally (wireless) reconnect back in the car pretty seamlessly and usually within 10 seconds. Has not always been the case i.e. I seem to recall way more issues a year ago in respect how quickly it would reconnect but these days seems to be working smoothly. Dropping the phone on the MagSafe magnetic holder I guess a little easier than reconnecting usb too but minor!

A great thread!

I'm wondering about nightvision, it seems @ciaranob can choose it for the right "tube"? In my car I can only have it in the center tube.

I do find it negative that Porsche has decided that elements are reserved for one tube each. I would have had Information to the left and Trip to the right. To have both visible, I have Information in the right tube and MyScreen with Trip to the left, map in the middle and Media to the right there.

That I cannot have a compass in the Sport Chrono clock since I have a Sport Turismo is also remarkably silly.
