Tesla Model S, Taycan 4S (in order since 12/2022)
Country flag
I ordered a Model S PLAID nearly 3 years ago after owning a Model S P90D for 7 happy years, but then in May that dreaded email came in cancelling all the right hand variants indefinitely ?‍♂
So what was a fanboy to do, I hadn’t considered any other electric car and had little knowledge or interest in anything else? The model 3 and Y were software and production marvels but as common as butt holes and getting even more common.
So I have 4 friends who bang on relentlessly about their bloody Porsche cars whilst I’m desperately trying not to eye roll so bad I can actually see the back of my scull ?
I wanted something special and exciting to drive so decided to test drive the Taycan Cross Turismo to see what the fuss was all about, mmm okay there might be something in this Porsche thing!
The Tesla fanboy in me would have said it’s not as fast and has less range than my 7 year old car, but I’m realising that’s not everything, to be honest I’ve only launched the car about 10 times since I had it and I drive everywhere in chill mode as I work from home rarely travelling long distances anyway, so why should that be so important to my buying decisions? Turns out the Taycan is still extremely rapid but can actually corner and stop amazingly well too?
Fast forward to yesterday and I bought the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo in Ice Grey which is due to arrive October I also put a deposit on the new 2024 refresh version too ?‍♂
What a difference a couple of months makes
Interested in your thoughts on a couple of the options I spec’d:
1) Innodrive - Is it reliable on motorways? My old version (AP1) of Autopilot was solid on the motorway / dual carriageways but erratic on anything else?
2) Rear wheel steering - Got this to assist parking in tight spots, does it help?
3) Thermally insulated / privacy glass - Does it make much of a difference to the noise?
? If you managed to get this far well done ?

Hi Graig, you must be lucky. I have also decided to order a CT 4S in May and have now a build slot for December with delivery in January and at least in May there was nobody that could confirm the Refreshed Model. Yes it would be a MY24 but not a Refresh (that's what the dealer told me). Do you have more info about the MY24 Refresh?

Not more details really, it was referred to as a refresh but would make sense for the dealers to play that down due to the Osbourne effect. It's likely to address the main gripe of mileage which is a biggy. There's spy shots of a new vehicle already so it' definately happening but whether they'll get delays from battery shortages like the Cayenne or not who knows.

Agreed with @daveo4EV points.

I'm both a Tesla and Porsche fanboy.

both brands do what they do best. and I drive both.

Tesla a LOT more for road trips (wife loves Tesla as her daily). CT4S for me as a daily. about to hit 40k miles since picking up in Feb 2022.

bottom line (IMHO, of course), Porsche for driving, Tesla for road-trips (long road-trips). All EV, all the time.

Well unlike quite a few posters here, I do like Innodrive. I use it a lot on minor roads in the UK -it’s quite good at spotting speed signs and getting to the right speed in time. Its steering isn’t too bad either— useful as a safety guard if you are going to choose a radio station or take in the view while remaining in control - although at first I found it would disengage without telling me (other than turning off the little green light) which is a bit dangerous.

Well your taste is impeccable, your car looks exactly like mine ?.

A good friend of mine is a tesla fanboy with a plaid and I am hoping to do a direct comparison soon, so I'll look forward to your comparison. Although, I believe the only thing they will have in common is the price tag. Two completely different philosophies is what an EV should be.
Yeah, looks like mine too hahahaa. I think that my Mini SE really is the only ones that truly stands out from the crowds. Tons of CT on the streets now.

Where I live in northern Colorado, there are very few Taycans (maybe 2-3) and the only other CT is a base spec with no personality. Every time I go out I catch people taking pictures, pointing, commenting.

Ha-ha.
Not surprisingly it is the other way around here (the Mini is built 15 miles from here) I hardly ever saw a Taycan until a couple of months ago though I do every now and again now.

The MINI is kind of rare that when we stop at red light side by side. We actually turn and see who the driver is haha. Nice smile with a lady just last week.

OK enough now please with the political rant, I could respond to most of what you say but it’s not the place and you seem in transmit mode anyway, have a good day.
@CRAIG BROMLEY - I don't read the feedback you're getting as one directional. I think everyone hears you quite well, and you are getting informed feedback from other EV adopters just like yourself.

In general the participants in this Forum treat each other with respect and are forgiving when someone says something stupid (looking at myself here...).

Enjoy the Taycan! I think you're going to love it :)

BTW, range-wise… our 2015 P90DL (v1 battery pack) only rates at 230mi fully charged now - and I've never hit close to what it rates. My Turbo shows 265mi and it seems to actually hold to its mileage.

I feel like Innodrive is pretty close to AP1. Lane holding isn't as good but the "symbiotic steering" is much more pleasant to use.

RWS and insulated glass are game changers coming from an S.

We still have the S, wife drives it and loves it. I traded my '18 M3P+ with FSD and I couldn't be happier. Only things I miss are the "bong" when the light turns green in case I'm distracted and an app that actually works.

(pedantic note: we don't charge either to 100%… 80% normally. Full ratings are by using Math. And we use a dino car for long trips.)
comments like this make me wonder if something is wrong with my Turbo. I never seem to get more than 225 miles at full even on highway only

I've been as low as 210 with my 2020 Turbo - and as high as 270-290 - a lot depends on temp, tires, road conditions, driver and what not - 210-230 is inline with EPA estimates - any better and you're doing better than expected…

personally the tire situation is what makes a big difference for me - no more summer grippy tires for me on a 4 door sports sedan - I'd rather have the range vs. the incremental grip - and the all season's don't suck on this car.

that's probably why. maybe I'll try AS4's after. do you have launch issues on your all season tires?
