OK - i looked for similar posts and didn't see anything. Normally i do my research before posting (on this site and the interwebs in general) but i haven't done that for this topic as my kid just got married and i have done NOTHING but work on our house in preparation and wedding #$%^&*()#$% stuff. So i haven't gotten a chance to investigate this - all i can say is -

after the latest in-center update (not OTA) i got a week or two ago - where they told me they were reducing the charge from 100% to 80% - i've noticed the home charging SUCKS. i feel like i've gone from 30 added miles an hour to half that (on a good day). I've got 240v on Porsche's own charger (50 amp). I had to bring the charger device in for them to do something to it too. WTF didn't i ask more questions and say "no thanks"??? With all the craziness going on i didn't notice much until the last few days were i was low on charge and would plug it in for an hour here or an hour there on my home charger- and barely get anything.

I also have a WallBox - but it's in a different garage i can't access now due to wedding @$#%^&*(%^$ stacked in there. I'm hoping to clear it out before i need my next big charge and seeing if it's faster than the Porsche one

Does anyone have the details on this latest Software/Charger update and if this is normal? I'm in North America - not sure if it was a global update (they actually referred to it as a "recall"). And yes, i'm reaching out to ya'll before the service center because they hardly ever have the right answers....

Thanks ya'll - i don't have the internet-enabled charger, just the 'dumb' one - i didn't go back this far in search - i only looked at the last month or two when teh recall was announced- so i missed these threads. Holy crap.. Only on page 4 (of 34 post's pages). Wowsers. Glad i got that 'cheapie' WallBox charger in the other garage. Time to swap the placement of the two chargers.

i'll try to close this thread

It was a 50% reduction on the PMCC and PMC+. So the feeling that you're charging at half the speed is absolutely correct, you are.

[North America] - this is getting embarrassing - Porsche nerfing/neutering the PMCC via OTA update? | TaycanForum -- Porsche Taycan Owners, News, Discussions, Forums
just to be clear this 50% reduction is the external EVSE being configured to deliver 50% power because - well Porsche sucks - the vehicle is unchanged and can still charge at it's full 9.6/11 kW charging rate with either an adjusted PMC+/PMCC _OR_ a non-Porsche EVSE (Chargepoint, Tesla, Enphase/ClipperCreek, Wallbox)

Porsche's PMC+/PMCC have difficulty running at their fully rated 40 amp 9.6 kW charge rate without thermally stressing other components of your home charging system - they have done two things:
  1. issued a recall where they reconfigured the EVSE's to only run at 50% capacity
  2. issued a detailed installation guide - https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...-related-porsche-ntsb-article-analysis.13902/
reliable, high quality alternative non-porsche EV chargers (EVSE's) can be had for $200

you can fix your charging speed problem by:
  • adjusting your PMC+/PMCC back to 100% capacity - but read Porsche's guidance first
  • purchasing an alternative EVSE and ignoring the existence of the Porsche EVSE because - well it sucks.

Manually go back in and change it back to at least 30A...or back to 35A or even 40A if you wish. It was detuned because "some" outlets may overheat. Dealer manually detuned it to 20A for everyone to cover their lame asses and won't do what's right and replace these POSs! I have mine back at 40A and no problems and doesn't get hot.

OP has a PMC+ - it only has a 50% button - no way to set specific amperage - it's either 50% (20 amps) or 100% (40 amps)

yes thanks - i do have the PMC+ without the intelligence of the PMCC (?) - i did change it back from 50 --> 100%. been using it for years - no reason to run at half juice now

did charge must faster last night than it has over the last week or two. was it as fast as it used to? i didn't do the full math but it seemed pretty close
