That makes zero sense. I’d strongly question the accuracy of that data. Either it’s wrong or UK Porsche dealers really don’t know their market.

Dunno. In my experience, not too different in the US.
In Bellevue, new:

0 911
8 Panamera
10 Taycan

They also seemed far more willing to talk about discounts on a Taycan than before.
The whole market is cooling, and their projections are apparently particularly off for the Taycan.
Not too surprising: they have the least experience in that subsegment, and it also has the most change (in terms of competitive dynamics etc.).

It's the EV adoption chasm called out a few months ago: everyone who wanted a non-Tesla EV has gotten theirs, and the regular car buyer isn't convinced yet.

Porsche, in particular, has gone from pessimistic sales expectations to more than doubling production to (now) the realization that the Taycan market is saturated. In hindsight, their production hiccups may have actually been beneficial to keep some of that demand alive for longer, giving them time to realize it's cooling off.

Wonder how the e-Macan will sell and how it will be priced.

So basically a similar number as the Panamera, which even now are selling at a rate over 33 percent lower than Taycans?

I also notice that you left out Macans and Cayennes…

Does anyone have an actual example of buying a new Taycan at a discount in the US? Anything on something besides an RWD model? The feelers I've put out have told me I should feel lucky to "only" pay MSRP.

Now THIS is a wagon from the 90's!!
I think I have told the story here of running a diesel out of fuel in the middle of nowhere off I-40 in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and having to wake Zeke up to bleed the fuel lines.

To be more specific, that was a 1984 Buick Century diesel station wagon. You had to go whisper to it in the middle of the night that you were planning on going up a hill the next morning.

I drove that thing from Seattle through Yellowstone, down I-15 to Flagstaff, I-40 to Asheville, I-95 up to Boston in June, spent a summer in Dedham Mass painting houses, headed west in the fall, drove it back down to New Orleans, all the way out to LA on I-10, and then lived with it for about 6 months living halfway up Nob Hill in San Francisco.

With no garage. So I got to fight for street parking on one of the steeper hills in the city amongst highrise apartments and ritzy hotels and nightclubs with valets soaking up all the parking.

When my visa finally came through to go take off for Japan, I sold it to a German guy who was interning at my company, and he drove it all the way back across the country and sold it to an old lady in North Carolina, where it hopefully got to go into nice comfortable retirement cruising around to Winn-Dixies and bingo halls.

R.I.P., Bertha. Since it was the 1980s, we obviously had to have a CB radio with our handle printed on the back window in glittery reflective mirrorball letters - ICE NINE. Deadheads among you are probably noticing a pattern here.

69 new Taycans for sale in France at the moment which is only a bit higher than when I ordered mine. There is only 8 GTS Sport Turismos lime mine and cheapest is 13k euros more than I paid for mine.

So the UK market is very different to France.

I left out Macans and Cayennes because I'm not in the market for a Porsche SUV and never will be. I have no idea what normal stock levels look like.

I have had 911s, I continue to look for a new one. I know that there usually aren't many, if any, in stock. I have bought a Taycan, and I spent time before and after checking stock levels (I am tempted to move to a Taycan ST).

The stock levels are higher than usual right now, in my experience.
I included the Panamera for that reason: over the last 2-3 years, Panamera stock was usually 2-3x Taycan (anecdotally, I don't have a spreadsheet tracking it to share with you :) )

Why do I care? Because I am in the market for a new car, and this smells like higher discounts to me (also the original topic of the thread). And for others on the forum who might be in the same situation, I thought I'd share my thoughts/observations.

Seems reasonable enough to me...

I paid MSRP on my CT 4S in February this year. ADM was never mentioned, no charge for allocation waiting list, nor deposit on order once it froze. Any dealer still saying "feel lucky to pay MSRP" right now hasn't realized the covid "scarcity" they charged more for is gone. I would cast a wide net for best pricing, I lucked out that my local dealer was willing to be fair and honest when others were demanding non-refundable deposits and charging $10k+ over MSRP.

There are few tax breaks in the U.K., except for EVs which attract HUGE ones, for business owners you get 50% off the cost of your Taycan. And salaried employees have access to similar deals through an employer scheme.

For maximum tax breaks it is best to buy a new car on a lease. Important to note that of course car financing was until recently very cheap.

That being the case it is not really surprising how many units they sold here, and that the used market is just getting flooded with end of lease vehicles, this won’t slow down for at least a couple of years. The issue is that there is not a huge number of obvious buyers. Employer schemes can’t access used vehicles, cutting off a big segment of the subsidised market, and normal buyers (without tax breaks) are not only paying full price, but are now exposed to much higher rates. The only obvious buyer is a cash rich business owner, who can still take advantage of the tax breaks, and won’t get stung by financing, but still likes the better deal on used than new. However it seems a small buyer pool, compared to the amount of supply due on the market.

As such I think the outlook for used U.K. values is pretty bad for the next couple of years, government involvement has distorted the curve massively.

This is definitely true when I think of my acquaintances....

Most who wanted / could afford an EV has now bought one.

1 person has cancelled an order for an EV due to economic reasons/interest rates.

Next door is worrying about when his Tesla PCP finishes next April as his fixed rate mortgage renews at the same time.

Everyone else is firmly in ICE world. Many can't really afford a new EV, so some are turning anti EV (citing all the usual anti EV stuff that the media is pushing....... Fires / charging woes / range - and now depreciation).

Meanwhile, I just carry on driving my Taycan with a smile on my face.

Total speculation here, but given the history of Porsche sales I am of the opinion that the largest auto-buying market segment for an e-Macan or e-718 is in fact the Taycan customer base.

Taycan owners are the ones who are willing to pay a higher price for the handling and driving experience; we already enjoy and understand Porsche, and aren't put off by the purchase process (i.e., the Configurator with all the high-priced options); and we're already into EVs (i.e., the Taycan).

Ironically, I don't think that the existing Taycan owners are going to be an easy target market for other Porsche EVs as long as Porsche is not on board with the NACS standard AND some sort of reliable DCFC network access. As a result, my feeling is that the e-Macan is not going to sell well. It's sort of a "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" situation.

That and the current Macan customer base, a large proportion of which I assume were drawn by the prestige of the Porsche badge rather than performance differential. I think there are now too many competing smallish SUV-like EVs for the Macan to justify a significant price differential, even on performance terms (where the priority for SUVs is acceleration rather than handling).

Feelers or dealers? ;)

There are dealers out there who continue to perpetuate the myths based on pandemic bubble. I still occasionally hear “I could sell that car in California for $25K over sticker!” My response to thay would be “I will not pay this, so it seems to me the best business decision for you is to sell in California”. Most dealers quickly come down to earth, though I have come across exceptions. You profile does not state where in the US you ate located, but there are a few areas where dealers play harder than others, so it might make sense to expand your search to other areas.
