Ionizer... What's the story there?

I got my 23 CT4S back in May and todate i look for any excuse to drop someone, pick them up, drive the kids, drive the neighbors... Whatever it takes to hit the road and drive this beauty(pic attached)..

Im reaching out to this amazing forum regarding the Ionizer. I added it to my configuration and i'm trying to understand how it actually works, does it have any consumables, can i have it on all the time or it wont be as effective?

Good question! And there’s supposed to be an annunciator somewhere on the display, but I don’t think it works.

I always option cars with this feature now as it works and in its basic form allows your air filtration to work more efficiently and there are no consumables needed for the ionizer itself or any impact if you have it on all the time. We are not in a particularly poor air quality area but the air filters in the cars get pretty black at 12 months service time, so I change them more often. Taycan's cabin air filter below the glove compartment is easy to change on your own. I just do not know if there is another one somewhere with the 4-zone setup.

Ionisers are a simple and proven way of removing particulates from air, aka pollution. The only thing it consumes is electricity but the impact on the range is minimal. I leave it on all the time as I live in a city, I imagine you should too.

One of the items I obsess about, is being able to have my car ventilation setting on permanent re-cirulate mode, as I hate vehicle odor. So when I saw the ioniser option it was an automatic tick. Porsche believe automatic ventilation mode is optimal and sometimes I forget to select re-circulate (yes needs to be selected EVERY time I get into my car) and I have to admit with the ioniser, there is not a lot of difference between automatic mode and manual re-cirulate mode. So my view is the ioniser is effective.

I also leave my ionizer on all of the time. Doesn't hurt to have some extra filtration.

I originally spec’s it but was informed as not available when my (MY24) Taycan was delivered in Oct ? also no elect steering column….

Seems like most Taycan's are spec'd with the Premium Package, which includes the Ionizer so I would guess that at least 75% of Taycans out there have the Ionizer- either as standalone 'box tick0 or as part of PP.

Don’t think that applies to EU or UK as there are no ’packages’… just billable option lists….

Gotcha---I should have specified 'US'. Duly noted!

In the US, the Premium Package is pretty common and includes Panoramic Roof, Bose, Ionizer, LCA, 14 way seats, Seat ventilation, and Surround View.

….can guarantee that Porsche has calculated which way to charge/spec for each continent in order to maximise on profit ? wouldn’t like to guess which way they make the most profit from….
