Hi everyone,

i’ve wondered whether it will be possible in the near future to swap/upfrade a Taycan CT 2023 battery with a Taycan CT2025 battery. The new range seem too tempting and I would like to check all available options for getting that upgraded range into my Taycan CT.

Best,
Filip

From what's been reported about cost of replacing the full set of batteries in a 1st gen Taycan, it would cost up to half the current value of the car. But I can't see Porsche agreeing to upgrading batteries, even if it's technically possible- and other upgrades would be required to get the full range improvements advertised for the refresh version.

We still have to see the real increase of range. If it is 30/50 miles more than gen 1 I wouldn’t be bothered.

Pretty sure this would be hideously expensive if technically feasible.

Remember that the motors are different too which contribute to added efficiency.

Plus i imagine lots of software changes.

Cheaper and more sensible to purchase new.

Note that while the battery capacity has increased, the majority of the extra range comes from efficiency improvements.

I hardly think it’s worth replacing a fully functioning battery purely for a slight range increase. It’s probably better to just get a new car instead.

Maybe when Porsche gets tired of the old v1s monopolizing the charging stations, they will do an exchange v1/v2 + € £ $
:p

This might be your cheaper alternative to improved range…

The spoke design has a small influence on drag, the bigger one is the frontal area, basically the width.
If these wheel caps are concave and stick out a bit they may have more drag than one of the Porsche aero wheels.

Despite being an aerodynamicist I liked the styling of the 21” cross turismo wheels best and, by eye, they may be the most draggy centres on any Taycan wheel. I don’t cruise on motorways that often so I took styling over function.

You may just end up with a 2025 battery pack if the current ones keep failing well inside of warranty. I'm waiting for the shoe to fall on May 17 when Porsche/Audi sends out the recall notices for over 600 affected vehicles from 2021 to 2023...

Sounds too good to hear but as some other members pointed out, the new Taycan's battery may not be directly compatible with the old ones and software/hardware upgrades may be required. In all cases, getting a free battery upgrade sounds like a bargain...

Yes, just getting the latest version of the battery modules on my 2022 if any are bad would be welcomed just to make sure I don't have a battery fire from one of the early LG modules they've found to have weaknesses. Hopefully they get all the bugs out so the newer models are bulletproof.

I thought the usable battery was 15% bigger... And the wheels and tyres added either 4% or 11%? (There was a bar chart posted on here when the J1.2 was launched).

This is where an enterprising manufacturer could start to change the game... Make it easy to swap these things. Do a trade in type arrangement and recon' the traded in one for use in warranty repairs etc. ?

Will this eventually turn into a Chevy Bolt style LG failure?

If battery swaps to an updated version were available, it would do more do preserve the value of the car than anything else. Should be possible if the form factor were the same and the BMS goes with the battery. But then it would blow up the Porsche business model.

Right now I am expecting my 2020 Taycan 4S to have no value in a couple of more years, so ALL Porsche EV's given the upfront costs and depreciation are probably off the menu until proven otherwise.

How do you interpret that recall notice to arrive by May 17: is it that Porsche will know by then which cars are affected or knows them now and just has not sent out the announcements yet?
If they know now, should the recall already be linked to your VIN on the NHTSA Recall Check website? Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSA
