Probably the Tyacan Exclusive Design wheels - the only OEM wheels which are directional (and therefore asymmetric), and all would be shifting water outwards from the wheel wells.

True, but would there be any net lateral component, and in which direction?

Longitudinal then.
Maybe with reference to the vehicle, but I meant relative to the flow out from the wheel, which I assumed is in line with the wheel's axis, with the wheel acting like a propeller- so I intended "laterally" to mean across the face of the wheel/propeller. Anyway, to clarify my underlying question- does a propeller generate any net propulsive force perpendicular to its axis (I guess probably only when the wheel is partly submerged)?

Do that in an ICE….
A friend has just done that after Uk recent floods in his ICE AMG Merc, it stopped 10m after the flood and is now written off...expensive insurance claim...who knew the Taycan is amphibious !! Just incredible.

Yeah bonkers - I would NEVER do this.

But I guess all of an EV's running gear is sealed and it doesn't need to suck in air like an ICE.

I cant imagine the cabin didnt fill with water.

It would seem so, as the tapered shape of the blade changes the angle of the flow - and towards the same direction. The “rear” blade/spoke of a wheel would move the water out and to the rear, while the diametrically opposite spoke would cut through the water channeling it inwards towards the center; both/all spokes work towards the same effect.

(This thread turned somehow even sillier than it started, no?)

Also, any water out of the wheel wells comes in from the bottom but also from the front vents, the latter probably generating some lower pressures in front of the front bumper, perhaps just enough to nudge a floating car forward.

Looking at that, I reckon people in Dubai mustn't be used to rain or understand how 'wetness' works.

When you live in the UK - we automatically become an expert on water falling out of the sky and accumulating on the ground for months on end

I bet they don't even rush out to get burnt every time there is the slightest bit of sun or have rubber rings to play in the bigger puddles.

I won’t be trying this anytime soon o_O

I'd bet this is salt water so this Taycan is worthless now that salt water corrosion is guaranteed in the electrical system. This person is obviously a complete idiot or so wealthy that throwing away a perfectly good vehicle by submerging it in salt water is no big deal.

Aha!...those points might explain it- clearly the car is swimming forwards at the start of the clip, but I wasn't understanding how the propeller effect of the wheels wasn't a net zero with the top half of their rotation being forwards and the bottom half backwards.
No detail is too small and silly to escape off-topicky amateur analysis ?

I read the cause of the flooding was cloud seeding operations, so if that's accurate, it would be fresh water...not that anyone should want that in their car any more.
