Details about the steps involved in replacing Taycan battery components and reliability issues with batteries in various model years are shared in a different forum. Google 'DIY Taycan'
Thanks!

Way to complicated to fix the battery modules. 30 hours work???

So this could explain, why my Taycan is again in the shop with battery failure?

Anybody knows how to get a complete new battery for the 2020 Taycan?

Seems most of the failures from reading various threads is the 2020 model?
Doesn’t seem to be very many 2021 cars with the battery issue.

I think that independent shop owner said he has/will put a later version battery in 2020 Taycan. But you gotta get the car to his shop in Thailand.
But seriously, @Vim Schrotnock had HV battery replaced in his 2020. Read his threads.

If a 2020 HV battery is replaced/repaired, Porsche issued a TSB indicating that the replacement/repair has to be an improved version due to problems with HV batteries originally installed in 2020s.

Here is the TSB about 2020 HV batteries: Replacement Requirement for Cell Module for High-Voltage Battery on Vehicles Model Year L (2020):

Seems consistent with what you posted above from the service guy in Thailand.

Is the world is getting dumber, less competent? My latest theory is that this could bedue to ability for anyone to share any unfiltered opinion about anything on the internet at the speed of light, combined with people able to choose to only be exposed to content similar to what they create (a.k.a. echo chambers). My theory is consistent with recent AI research, in which researchers started training AI models on its own previous generation output, which resulted in them devolving with every generation leading to a complete model collapse.

Perhaps biological intelligence (i.e. humans) are no different - when left to overdose on each other's feedback without any filters we had pre-internet (peer reviews, publishers, gossip and crazy theories only spreading mouth to mouth therefore limiting the spread rate, etc), human intelligence is devolving just as AI models do, except with AI we can iterate through generations faster, so we can know what's coming for humans. Measured IQ's are dropping already:

Lol, wtf? This is a Taycan Forum, and to be specific a thread about Porsche and a dealer making dumb decisions. Nothing to do with mankind.

The point was that the less than competent Porsche dealer experiences to which I replied to were probably not unique to Porsche, but rather on par with the rest of humanity latest trends. ?‍♂

Thank you, this is helpful talking to the shop. Still no word from them what the problem is. I am 6 weeks in the country and no car. Driving my Zeekr instead:

So it seems you better hope for a battery failure in the subpar 2020 battery pack before the 8 year timeframe comes around. So you can get the upgraded 2021 pack.
From reading threads it’s not a point of if ….. its when the pack will fail in the OG cars

they will more then likely just replace the faulty module don’t count on getting a new pack.

I’m really considering a 2020 used turbo here local one owner but the entire battery fiasco has me concerned. And basically four years in the battery will no longer be covered and I plan on keeping the car longer than that. Even with aftermarket warranty, it does not cover the battery correct?

If you are looking at 2020 Taycan, read posts 74, 76, and 78 above and the Porsche TSB.
Extended protection plans like Porsche Platinum plan do not cover the HV battery.

Benefit is the battery will most likely fail prior to the end of the battery warranty. That vehicle already probably has a cell module recall. Which a repair has not been produced yet by Porsche. I think you will be fine you just may not have the car for a couple months during the repair.

Speculation?
But the global battery guarantee is 70% life at 8 years/100k miles?

Believe that is true
I’m currently trying to find out from Porsche what if any plans they have to offer battery insurance beyond year 8. Currently all other models can be warranted up to age 15.
If they have no plans I’m likely to bail out.

@feye Another post (July 24, 2024) by that independent service guy about 2020 HV batteries:

is there any more issues with the 2020 battery compared to other years?

No doubt. C modules (2020) have a defective chemistry which was later upgraded in G modules (2021).
This causes at least one of the cells inside the module to suddenly drop voltage to 0.00V and cause the battery to fail with a “Cell Voltage difference too high” error.
This fault is basically exclusively to 2020 model. And quite common. I dare to say every single 2020 car will have this issue sooner or later.
2021s, 2022s, 2023s, 2024s experience battery issues as well…. But it’s isolation problems, or temperature sensing problems, etc.
