My point is they could have used the massive amount of time and money they spent on redesigning every single body panel to make even more improvements in the car.
Can you substantiate this claim?

i read this to mean that:
- the rear was redesigned because of the motor/powertrain changes
- the front bumpers were revised
(And the rest was probably spent on refining “turbonit”.)

Could be performance, features, interface, or just a lower list price...;)
Better software capabilities and leave the body panels alone. While it does not look like much has changed I agree with @Vim Schrotnock here that a lot of body panels were changed, but changed to look like the same car (typical Porsche redesigns)

I agree - and there are a number of things Porsche has done to make the 2025 a better car - more range, more power, quicker charging etc. My point is they could have used the massive amount of time and money they spent on redesigning every single body panel to make even more improvements in the car.
But then what would they do next time?

I agree with this. The Taycan is a fantastic car when it is operational, but all the visits to the service centre for lots of niggles makes it hard. In France you will have to pay an extra CO2 tax of 60,000 Euro for a 911. That is a bitter pill to swallow!

This ad is something Taycan will not live up to

In 20 years none of the youngsters will want to touch that. And running it at 20$/gal won't be a joy either.
It maybe worth something as a museum piece, but then there's far too many of them to be worth anything.

I agree.
The only really valuable cars will continue to be the very rare ones, the relatively common ones (over 500 made, for example) will not appreciate much, if at all.

I am pretty confident that the baseless panics about hybrid reliability and costs of 20 years ago will be equally discredited with EVs, at least any, like the Taycan, with modular serviceable batteries.

Naw, why settle for “acceptable” or “good”; the best option is obviously a real driver’s car like the 911, and a real driver’s daily EV - like the Taycan.
Exactly. I had a MS90D and it was horrendous. Last week I was in a M3 Uber in HK and it still sucked cramped and noise inside with poor finish right infront of my eyes.

If you want to buy an insane overpriced golf cart, go for it, if you want a real drivers car, spend the money and buy a Porsche! The Taycan will make you happy for years to come everytime you drive it.

I owned three Model S Tesla's before I acquired my 2024 Taycan GTS. They are very different cars but without reservation I can say the Taycan is my favorite. The interior in black and burgundy leather makes the Model S look poverty stricken. The handling and braking are far superior to the Model S and inspire confidence when driving. The color displays are saturated and brilliant in illumination. The seats are incredibly supporting and comforting. Exterior paint and styling are head turners. My GTS came with monstrous 305 tires in the rear which give incredible traction. The horse power and range fall short of my Model S Plaid but the Taycan is more than adequate. My body could not function during accelerations of the 1000 hp Tesla. It was dangerous. In a word, the Taycan is splendid and I do not regret my move for a second.

I needed this. Thanks. Been in paralysis reading all the negative vibes. I get that for some people the Model S is good enough and for others the Taycan isn’t good enough. I was very happy for a long time with my S but o want something more substantial that feels like a premium car. I just can’t see that in an 90k plaid. I have driven it and it’s great but it’s a 70k car that is primarily tech and little substance.

Uh, yeah. (Not to be a bore, but the model depicted in the ad is a GT3 Touring.)

ICE will be with us for many decades. Car enthusiasts will remain enthused by mechanical things which rev, and scream, and require hand-eye-ear-foot coordination, rewarding it with smooth driving. Synthetic gas is now $20/gal, I imagine that will only come down. In short, yes, mass transport may become fully electrified, and I would still think some grandchildren will be very happy to drive Gramps’ GT (or just plain vanilla Elfer, as in my case).

Yes, I think nostalgia for the shortcomings of IC engines will continue for a while, but not long IMO.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this dog doesn’t hunt for me…

Of course the Taycan doesn’t have the exact same dynamics as a 911, but coming from a 991.2 GT3 to a Taycan GTS, the car is absolutely still a Porsche

I had your dilemma not too long ago. Coming from a 2018 Model S as a daily driver, I was Tesla all the way for 6 years. I have 997.1 TT, 991.1 S Cab, and 993 C4S and each Porsche served a different purpose. When I transition to the Model S, I miss the driving engagement. The Tesla tech is superior but when I test drove the 2024 Taycan ST GTS, I was sold! It drives like a Porsche and that’s what I want. A little adjustment from one-pedal driving is all. Tesla will NEVER drive like a Porsche.

7 year 2015 P85 Model S owner here, moved to a 2021 4S. I'll voice the same sentiments as others, they are different cars each with their own strengths. Biggest disappointment with the Taycan is the software. The model S is a sporty sedan where as the Taycan is more of a 4 door sports car. The Taycan handles like a dream, its range is far more accurate and it is absolutely a head turner. But being that it's more of a sports car it is harder to get in and out of, it is smaller inside and less comfortable for passengers. Its software is easily the worst part of the car. CarPlay disconnects all the time, no walk away auto locking and the biggie, the cabin cooling experience is virtually non-existent. Having to guess when you'll want your car cooled and manually programming it feels like the stone age after having Tesla's for so long. Tesla gets a lot of things right. In summary:

Taycan wins in:
- "cool factor"
- handling
- finishes

Tesla wins in:
- every technology piece from charging, to cooling
- it's more spacious
- easier to get in and out of

I had a Model 3 Performance. The Taycan is better in pretty much every automotive way. I prefer one pedal driving, but understand what Porsche was going for. I prefer the real dash of the Taycan, but the secondary screen is wasted space. Would be nice to have some controls for when Android Auto is on.

I miss the Tesla app, I miss the phone key and I miss having a built in dash cam. Like all these cameras and you can't record?

I also miss just walking away from the car and it locks.

I've test driven the refreshed model 3, and it's much better than the first gen-great for someone who likes good infotainment software and could care less about how it actually drives. It still doesn't drive as well as the worst Porsche ever made (might I say a 986??). But it seems what you're looking for in a car, or what makes a good car, a good car, Porsche doesn't do well in the Taycan.
Try the performance version of the model 3. Active suspension and better seats. I haven't tried it yet but would be my first choice. Taycan and Model S are too large for me.

I'd say 996 is the worst driving Porsche. At least the Boxster has better weight balance :)
