Before I left for a 6 month deployment I read many threads relating to the best Taycan long term storage practices and became even more uncertain of what to do. Some posts suggested a mix of using a battery tinder, remove wheels, charge set to 5% 20%,50% or 80%. Various other directions and suggestions.

What I decided on was not removing tires, cracking the frunk open incase of dead battery. Leaving charge set to 50% without a battery tender. During the duration the car was unplugged for over a month due to my wife traveling to visit family in South Africa. The car was turned on only twice by her but not driven due to medical reasons.

An hour after landing from a 16 hour flight I went home and conducted an inspection. The tires had no visible flat spots. Electronics turned on with no issues (map updated). Chargpoint app showed no charging sessions due to battery drain. I Drove it and it felt as if I never left.

I hope to ease some of the worries about long term storage and add a clearer picture on what to do.

thank you for this write up - I prefer actual data vs. speculation when ever possible - glad to hear it went well for you - I'm honestly unsurprised - but none they less happy for the confirmation.

Good stuff.

We have stored our Genesis EV for 6 months on 2 separate occasions. I reached out to Genesis to ask how to handle this - they said disconnect the 12V battery - that’s it. I also pumped the tires to 48 PSI and put door mats on the garage floor under each tire.

No issues when we returned either time.

Perhaps a stupid question, but won't the 12V battery be continuously charged as well when the car is plugged in -- or does the 12V battery have to be charged separately from the car's battery pack?

I read that a previous update allows the 12v battery to remain charged when the car is plugged in. However I've also read a lot of back n fourth opinions on this topic.

I assumed you weren't leasing the Taycan because during a deployment, you can use the SSCRA to get out of a lease.

The SSCRA has amazing benefits for service members, I didn't know about the leasing benefits. I purchased my car, but that's good information to have...thanks

I turned in my Chevy Volt lease early prior to deployment 10 yrs ago. All credit card(AMEX Plat) annual fees refunded.

I asked my dealer, and the service guy told me that if I used the Porsche original charging cable, it will charge the 12V battery while charging the high voltage batteries — don't know if this is correct as I haven't heard that anywhere else, but that's what he said... I also asked a sales guy and he told me that they've had a couple of Taycans standing still for almost a year without being charged (I'm assuming they were charged up before they were stored away) and then starting them up without any issues at all.

Wow that's amazing and should put long term storage fears to bed. Thanks for sharing!

He’s claiming that something is special about the OEM EVSE such that it also charges the 12v whereas competitor EVSE don’t?
If so, don’t believe anything this guy claims!

I agree, this sounded a bit weird to me as well. He mentioned that the Porsche specific charging cable should have a ’P’ in a triangle symbol on it, and as long as it has that it will charge the 12V battery as well. Would be nice though to have this confirmed from additional (reliable) sources.

^ That sure seems impossible. AC flowing into the Taycan is the same (at any given combination of kW and V) regardless of whose cord is delivering.
