Nope...not the band!

Curious this one...my home wallbox stopped supplying power the other night and the car did not charge. Several calls later, still no joy from the supplier project EV.

However, did some investigation(including using neighbours EVSE) and I eventually discovered that I CAN DC charge but the car will NOT AC charge?!
That means I now have to hunt down a DC charger, sit for about an hour at least after work to get enough charge for a few days to get to work etc rather than overnight charge at home.

Took to the OPC today ...' never seen that before' ....but they say Porsche won't facilitate a loan/courtesy car until the car fails as the car still charges...go figure!

Any others had this?

Mine did the same, 3 day old 25 gen2, went to dealer and they then reported the dc too had stopped working. 10 days later and a replaced on board charger the car is now fixed, although I’m yet to test this as it was handed back with full charge and I literally picked it up today. Anyway it’s likely to be the onboard charger, and a quick search will reveal this is a common problem.

Has been an issue before and odd that your dealer would be in denial.

Charge ports can and do fail. Typically AC is the first to go leaving DC only unless you are really unlucky and both fail.

Hi
It may be that they're sensitive to my situation....they had swapped this car out 2 years ago for a previous Taycan because the previous one was a 'lemon' as our American cousins would describe it.
I'll be on it again this morning.
Thanks

By way of an update.
My OPC or Porsche will not accept that I can't charge via AC is bad enough to arrange a loan car while it's looked at.
Meanwhile I have to hunt for a DC charger after work, sit in the car for a while before heading home. Oh...and also pay 10 x more than my overnight rate.

I don't feel this is acceptable. This isn't a rattle or minor nuisance. It's a fundamental part of making the car 'go'.

On top of that, I've been waiting 4 months for the brake hose recall and been cancelled once already.

First time in Porsche brand. One car swapped out due to multiple garage visits and now the 'premium " brand customer service also severely dented.
Is that just the way it goes with Porsche? Previous customer service with BMW and Mercedes miles better

Objectively you have a useable charging option which is DC - not Porsche's issue that it is inconvenient for you.

Brake hose recall - many cars requiring the parts and you may not actually require it (the work will be performed regardless).

Porsche is just another manufacturer run by Bean Counters and unfortunately parented to VW. VW as a group is imperfect and struggling (factory closures looming in Germany).

I've had Porsches since 2003 all sourced from the same dealer and can't really complain about the service - purchase or aftersales. Been off days for sure and loan cars can be a scarce commodity but overall a positive experience.

The Taycan (I'm on my 2nd new one) has been a marmite experience - my first MY21 (4S) went through the mill and my second MY23 (GTS ST) has been perfect and only been to the garage for recall work (including the hose work which is brilliant once done). Will I buy a 3rd, hmm not sure but only because of the woeful depreciation which matters to me (private buyer).

On balance, frustration is to be expected but better than Merc or BMW (in my experience) and a level above.

Thanks for your feedback W1NGE and I suppose it will vary.

On balance my experience with previous marques has probably been influenced by zero recalls and also just routine servicing and minor warranty items etc. Never had so many recalls and issues with my most expensive car ever. It's been aspirational but tainted by mediocrity.

Love it when it works....but it's not consistently reliable!

I hope you get things sorted.

Personally, I have found the whole Taycan ownership experience to be (by far) the worst I've had in 40+ years of car ownership.

Whats the point of having a nice car if its always at the dealership?

My biggest gripe was not even being able to get it booked in, due to a lack of trained technicians and the amount of broken Taycans.

3 months wait in one instance, just to get it looked at.
Not acceptable imo.....if they are happy to sell the things, they should be set up to fix them. Not act like it's all a big surprise, that's landed in their lap.

I am selling mine this week and will never be buying another Porsche.

It is disappointing for sure but had you not bought a Taycan as your first Porsche your experience would have been quite different.

I had a Bxster S from new and owned it for 12 years. Only trips to the dealer were for servicing and so 6 times in all. My wife has a Macan T from new (last April) and has had 1 recall visit.

The only saving grace is thr gold plated warranty.

Hopefully things will get better for you.

Such a shame for a beautiful car. Same story over and over again. Looks like all regular posters and big enthousiasts I have seen in this forum the past 3 years end up selling their car because of reliability and service issues.

Sorry this also happened to you. Going to another EV ? Ir back to ICE

@OP. Don’t loose faith. Lot’s of happy owners too. Sorry ik happened to you after such a short ownership.

Not being able to charge at AC chargers has happened to owners in this forum, including me.

For Taycans with 11 kw on-board chargers, the usual fix is to replace the on-board charger.
When it happened to my 22 4S, it was covered by warranty and dealer provided loaner, all of which (including loaner) was paid for by PCNA.

When you are told by dealer service "never seen that before" (for a not uncommon Taycan problem), you should find a different dealer to service your Taycan.

I drive 90 miles (past 3 closer dealers) to have my Taycan serviced. Taycans are not only new technology to owners, they are new to service departments, dealer sales people, and the manufacturer.

The crazy thing is I paid to have the extra 22kw charge as quite a few of them as public chargers in Scotland !

22kW AC has a poor track record on reliability unfortunately @tigerbalm will testify (at least 4 replacements)...they're made in Ireland too apparently!

Personally I don't see the need for this option given it is still slow and plenty of public DC around Scotland.

Agreed now...at the time, not so much DC and a lot of the council based ones allowed 22kw
