I thought the Off Road Design Package was purely cosmetic?
The functional part is that it raises the normal driving driving height, but actually lowers the maximum clearance due to the cladding that protrudes downwards. The latter of course seem counter-intuitive for an "off-road" package.

^ Yes, but that higher default is pretty marginal for practicality. As for the lower clearance, in theory perhaps some extra squish (since the ORD plastic is a bit soft, I think?) might take one for the team that could have caused add'l damage even with add'l clearance yet w/o an initial squish layer. (But I've probably already disproved my own theory.)

Although I suspect the original owner of my 4CT was thinking otherwise upon ordering it.
(Definitely can't protect against a critter hit to the left front end.)
You are mostly correct. Although there are some drive train alterations that do help. Copied from google:
Ground clearance: Increased ground clearance of 10 mm with the chassis at "medium" level
Off-road design cladding: Integrated into the lower valance, side skirts, and rear diffuser
Gravel mode: Raises the ride height by 30 mm compared to the saloon
Underbody protection: Helps keep rocks off the paint
Chassis systems: Influences the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), and Porsche Stability Management (PSM)
Rear-axle transmission: Shift operations are optimized for maximum traction
Throttle characteristics: Designed for off-road driving in terms of power delivery and control precision.

I drove my Panamera on the same roads and it seemed equally as capable. Personally, I really like the esthetics of the off road cladding and the extra protection it gives to the vulnerable parts of the car.

Or, it might snag groundhog, dragging it under the car rather than letting it slip under the flat bottom? :p

I have driven on relatives farm tracks and some scenic dirt roads in mine in gravel mode.
It works fine. I wouldn't drive it like a rally car anyway I have too much respect for other people to deliberately damage their road surface needlessly.

I learned to drive in a Land Rover in the 60s and I am familiar with off-roading but our local green lanes have all been damaged by ignorant cretins in SUVs since such vehicles became fashionable, some beyond repair. Many are now illegal to be used by powered vehicles, but too late and are permanently damaged.

if you are going to use the taycan offroad you should consider investing in installing a skid plate to protect the car. something like this https://automodsfl.com/skid-plates-5-2-2/
What the chance they make a whole battery protection plate from titanium ? Because thats what taycan needs, as the battery is slightly easier to damage and quite a bit more expensive than the front bumper

Why titanium?
It is neither stronger nor stiffer than steel. A Ti plate of the same dimensions as a steel plate would be half the weight but half the stiffness of steel

just what crossed my mind, I think Tesla uses / used titanium for model s.

But yea, irrelevant what material, as long as it’s significantly stronger
