Hi - Yes, I know this topic has been discussed 1,000 times but most of the threads seem to be closed down by someone entering the discussion and saying ‘you just set a timer for 85%’ or ‘the minimum charge in profile is actually a maximum’, etc…

None of this is true.

I set a timer for 85% at 8am, wake up at 10 and the F***IN car is at 100%.

I set the profile minimum charge to 85% overnight, wake-up and the F***ING car is at 100%.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW YOU MAKE THE THING STOP AT 85% AND FOR IT TO ACTUALLY STOP 85%?

Is your profile enabled? Easier to do it from the mobile app.
Should look like this.

* I see you said timer. Profile needs to be set first.

To buy time while you figure out the settings, deactivate all timers. For the active profile, set the minimum to 85% and select “optimized charging.” The car will immediately charge to 85% and stop. It stops because there are no further instructions. This method does not apply if you actually have the home equipment that supports optimized charging. Note also that DCFC always charges to 100% or until you manually stop it.

Hang in there. The profile and timer settings will make sense. After a few months, anyway.

If you set a timer and you want to leave with 85% make sure 85% is set in the timer as well.
The car charges to whatever you set in the profile straight away. The timer charges to whatever is set in the timer to finish with whatever charge percentage is set in the timer and can have pre-heating too, if set.

I have my profile set at 80% but usually set the timer for 100% because I only use the timer when planning a long journey starting early.

So you need to set both the Timer to 85% & the profile to 85% and have them both activated? Then it will actually stop at 85% and not keep going higher?

Not exactly intuitive is it.

I think I've tried this already and it kept going in this scenario too, but can try again to be sure if you say this works for you? (thanks)

Yep, not sure this helps. My problem is I want it to stop at 85%, but set a timer to 85% and it just keeps going to 100% if you leave it past the timer time.

Even more confusingly, what it actually does is say 'Charging process complete' at 85% but keeps going to 100% if you don't unplug it.

There has been discussions about this several times. Think we never really hot behind the issue, but my car stops reliably at any % SoC that I set.

Try to set the departure times for every day in the week and make sure they are visible. I have found that the car will charge to set 5 age level and stop at that reliably.

My profile is set in the same way with repeat every day of the week, even if I do not plug in daily. But my profile level is only set to 25% which is the Porsche minimum.

I want the car to charge in the night between 02.00 and 07.99 when the electricity prices are low.

I think it depends how long after the end of the time you go back to your car and unplug.
i.e. if you set it to be ready for 7am and you unplug it around 7am then you assume it works as you say.
The problem comes where you set it to be done at 7am but you don't come back until 12pm, then you'll find it's well overshot the target.
It makes no sense to me that Porsche keep telling us to not charge past 85% and then make it so hard for us to ensure that doesn't happen.
There no way to tell it to stop charging from the app, which is also totally awful design!

Sigh. Appalling user interface, no wonder you are confused. The new car has a simpler control which Porsche really should roll out to all models.

People have responded with the proven (if stupid) recipe: profile for 85% + timer for 0530 @ 85%.

I would just add that if you DO want a higher charge for a road trip one day, don't try just adding another timer, as I did. I set up 100% by 0500 thinking it would do that. No, it stopped at 85% (and I had to go and find a DC charger on my journey).

Also I would add: do NOT leave a destination set in the satnav when you park up for the night. If you do, the car decides it can charge en route instead of overnight, and may not charge at all!

If you always want the car to charge to 85%, only use the general profile with minimum set to 85%, not timers. If you want to preheat the car on a timer, uncheck the charging part on the timer, use it just to preheat. Only use the timer for charging if you want to go above 85%.

PS> The UX of this is very poor. I speculate it was never actually designed. Some engineer was handed the ISO15118 spec and they just implemented UI based on that spec, without any consideration of usability.

No I have set the charger to 50% and left it connected for 7 weeks or so while on holiday. Charged up to 50% and stayed there for me.

But I fully agree it is a very sophisticated German engineering feat, to make it so complicated. And as pointed out, not available for DC charging and do not set a destination in the navigator!

German engineering at its finest :D

A simple slider would not fit the Porsche criteria of over engineering everything ;) At least for j1.1.

Jokes aside, if I were in your position, knowing what I know now about the car, I would go full petty mode and take it to the dealer. After all, Porsche should know when they make good design choices like this ;)

Ah, I missed the not available for DC charging point before. I’m using the street lamp chargers here in London.

do you reckon this could be the reason it just keeps charging? Totally mental if so!

thanks again

Assuming your street charger doesn't go above 22kw, than no, it shouldn't go above 85% with proper limit set
