2024 Taycan GTS - BMW E92 M3

About a year ago my search landed a new 2024 PTS Voodoo Blue GTS. It’s an amazing car and I got an equally amazing deal, but…

I decided to trade it in for a 992.1 GT3 in part because I missed the joy of operating a manual sports car and the GT3 is “the” car for that by Porsche.

Perhaps one day I’ll return to an electric Porsche, maybe J2.1 or J2.2 ?

I want to say thanks to this group for the wealth of Taycan information and I wish you all the best.

Interesting.
I spent years working out how to minimise the losses due to internal combustion engine's need of a multi ratio gearbox whilst working in Formula One.

I do have a 6-speed manual 3-pedal car which I know how to have fun with, and kept, but in the end the fact that the wide power band of my Taycan, and its instant throttle response are so compelling I don't miss the manual at all.

I may use it on a sunny day (it is a soft top) but despite its narrow power band, not because of it :)

I love the perfect imperfections of mechanical things and the 911 is one of the finest examples. Hopefully we will continue to hold a sweet spot in our hearts for that narrow power band.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing and us old guys who only drove and raced manual petrol cars for decades and tried to master and optimise their use will always have an emotional attachment, I suppose.
OTOH I wonder if it will last?
My point of view is from the pure engineering fact that IC engines have major shortcomings we have worked around for over a century.

Things like the noise (OK the GT3 is good but most engines sound awful) need to frequently replace and filter the burned lubricant and the complexity of everything except the fuel tank are normal for us but the next generation will maybe see it differently.
Rationally I would expect it.

I do prefer mechanical watches to electronic ones but apart from being a tiny bit less accurate and more expensive they aren't as compromised in their function as any IC engine.

Imagine how much of a PITA having an IC engine in a lift (elevator) would be ? ?

Nice! Congrats. Once you go GT3, you're hooked.

GT3 is not a replacement, rather an addition. Would never use my GT3 summer/winter day and night short/long trips like I use my Taycan.
I simply cannot imagine it.

I went (kind of) the other way — from a Cayman GTS 4.0 to a Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. The Cayman GTS was/is a great car, but I don't regret the switch for a second (also, I still have my old tuned RS6 Avant so that I can enjoy a roaring V8 occasionally :–).

Congrats, very nice. You'll miss the low end torque in the Taycan around town. I have a 991.2 GT3, after driving the Taycan all winter the GT3 feels slow that first few miles in the spring.

Congratulations!

This is perhaps the only change I would consider (if I had a spare £120k) - a guards red 992 GT3 is literally my dream car!

Stunning!

Congratulations!
Wishing you happy miles!

I still do like my Taycan cuz it smokes noisy supercars seemingly effortless.
It's a different style of grace, mature, advanced, yet simple, efficient, effective and highly demotivating for supercar drivers.
They don't even want to race me anymore...
Did I mention my car carried four adults?

911 GT3?
Meh.
I prefer a 5.2l V10 @ 8500 rpm.
If you make that much noise you should have a form that goes with it: intimidating, a modern 911 doesn't have that, a Huracan does.
I've always been a fan of Lamborghini.
Their V12s and V10s are masterpieces.
Running an engine like that over 9000rpm is simply ridiculous.

I don't like a modern 911, too big, boring design, you can't even see the engine anymore...
Had a 992 C4S for two months but I was glad I got my Taycan back.
It almost felt outdated due to the vibrations, gear shift bumbs, lack of linear powerband, smell, noise, comfort.

I do like the old 911 Turbo though, love that shape, love that interior, simple, elegant but very dangerous, love the 80's but that's a personal thing.
For now, I love my Taycan, best car I've ever owned.
I don't even know what to buy next...

Looks like Porsche San Francisco!

You had less than 1k miles on your Taycan?!
