Picked up my 2025 Taycan 4S mid-Feb but with PPF and lousy weather I've really only just been driving it full time for a 1.5 weeks.

Few issues/questions:

1. Carplay - it seems to be hit and miss on if it connects right away after startup. If it doesn't, it won't connect for a long time after driving (up to an hour) - is this the car or is it Carplay?

2. Brake/recuperation - is there any way to tell by how far the green regen bar extends to the left on the panel, when in that braking the mechanical brake is being applied? Or, should I assume that if the green bar is up and doesn't extend fully that the mechanical brakes are NOT being applied at all and that it's all engine slowing it down?

3. Similar to #2 - I notice at times when coming to a complete stop, a noise that sounds like something mechanical engaging. It's a soft sound, not a loud one. It sometimes also occurs if I'm braking into a tight curve with a bit of velocity, and I quickly release the brake and press the accelerator - the sound at times comes quickly (and there's a slight jolt of the car along with it as I quickly go from braking to accelerating).

4. Charge port doors - can you open them when the car is unlocked but you don't have the key on you? Or is the FOB always required to be on you to open them? Same question I guess for the Frunk and trunk too.

5. Manoeuvring assist - what does this setting do?

6. Headlights when unlocked - how do you turn them off when the car is parked and unlocked?

7. Carwashes & CC - I had STEK PPF put on and IGL Shield Kenzo ceramic coat over top. Driving it almost daily I have salt all the time on it. My PPF guy recommended the touchless car washes only every 2 weeks and not more often to preserve the coating. Is it better to do it more often than that vs. having the salt layer sitting on it instead? What does every one do?

1. Research the forum - well documented.

2. No. Bar extends when recuperation is active for either of braking recuperation or overrun recuperation. It may not register on first startup for a mile or so. Recuperation is limited for the first 500 miles or so on a new car.

3. The sound will most likely be the brake rotors as mechanical braking is in play.

4. No need to have key present if car is unlocked for charge port door or trunk. Hood can only be opened from either the inside (lower display panel), key fob button or present and hand gesture if you have Comfort Opening.

5. Uses Park Assist sensors to warn of of obstacles.

6. If car not powered on then they will time out if left on auto. Timer can be set in PCM.

7. Hand wash only.

8. Familiarise yourself with the Owner's manual.

For #2, the performance screen in the pcm will show green vs red when regen vs mechanical braking is applied. The driver console and hud only show regen and not mechanical.

Suggest getting a high quality cable to your iphone and using it when having issues w carplay....it USUALLY works! I find carplay gives me problems when I need it the most - so I need a plan B!

thanks for the tips. Regarding the hand wash, that’s just not an option for me as I’m dealing with a Canadian winter here.
What’s best? Touchless car wash more often or let the salt layer sit on it for a while?

My 2 cents. I'm more concern about the salt corrosion on the bottom of the car like battery, brakes, suspensions, joints, bolts, nuts... etc

I live in sunny southern California, but whenever I leave ski area with salt covered road, I find a place to wash my car.

I live in Ontario - in the winter that means you go out for a 20 min drive and your'e coated in salt. Can't wash every day as would like to preserve the coating longevity.

I tested this out yesterday and am surprised to learn that I can brake quite hard and yet without even using the mechanical brakes. I think this bodes well for brake pad longevity - it's quite remarkable actually the level of stopping power just using the electrical motors.

Per manual, brake pads are only due for replacement at 6 year mark only due to age, not wear, and there is no mention of the rotors being replaced at any time. However, if you have PSCBs then the trend that we are seeing is because of this low use the coating is cracking and chipping. What kind of brakes do you have? Also, a build code or window sticker sharing would be helpful to know your full build and options.

In theory at least there's no reason why the electrical system can't provide as much retardation as acceleration.

Can you please provide the menu sequence (how to see this screen) on the PCM screen?
Thanks…

Just select Performance from PCM and the first tab that is shown (Dynamics) displays a bar graph of Brake and Power. Brake can be either green, red, or both. Power will be blue. Also included a photo.

CarPlay can sometimes be hit or miss on connecting. I use the wireless connection mode all the time, and sometimes I have to coach the Taycan into reconnecting. Here is the sequence I use.

Step 1 - CarPlay not connected, and pushing the Apple CarPlay button doesn't work (sounds like your situation). Go to main Settings Screen and click on the Devices button.

Porsche Taycan New 2025 Taycan 4S - Few Newbie Questions 1741641866159-07

Step 2 - You are likely to see a window with the Music button BLUE for your phone like in the image below. Note that the other buttons are WHITE. Push the BLUE button to turn it WHITE. Once the Music button is WHITE, you can restart the CarPlay connection by pushing the WHITE Phone button.

Step 3 - At this point the Phone button should be BLUE, so touch the Music button to turn it BLUE again.

Step 4 - Almost there! Once both the Phone and Music buttons are BLUE, push the CarPlay button and it should connect.

This seems to work for me - hope it works for you ?
