For CarPlay -- If I don't connect I go to the

CarPlay can sometimes be hit or miss on connecting. I use the wireless connection mode all the time, and sometimes I have to coach the Taycan into reconnecting. Here is the sequence I use.

Step 1 - CarPlay not connected. Go to main Settings Screen and click on the Devices button.

Step 2 - You are likely to see a window with the Music button BLUE for your phone like in the image below. Note that the other buttons are WHITE. Push the BLUE button to turn it WHITE. Once the Music button is WHITE, you can restart the CarPlay connection by pushing the WHITE Phone button.

Step 3 - At this point the Phone button should be BLUE, so touch the Music button to turn it BLUE again.

Step 4 - Almost there! Once both the Phone and Music buttons are BLUE, push the CarPlay button and it should connect.

This seems to work for me - hope it works for you ?
What a faff - why not just hit the CarPlay button on the last picture? This is how I switch between CarPlay and Android Auto.

Because sometimes it doesn't work, and for clarity I only have to do this when it isn’t connecting. Normally it’s just hit a button like you suggest.

I so wish it were seamless every time I get in the car!

Picked up my 2025 Taycan 4S mid-Feb but with PPF and lousy weather I've really only just been driving it full time for a 1.5 weeks.

Few issues/questions:

1. Carplay - it seems to be hit and miss on if it connects right away after startup. If it doesn't, it won't connect for a long time after driving (up to an hour) - is this the car or is it Carplay?

2. Brake/recuperation - is there any way to tell by how far the green regen bar extends to the left on the panel, when in that braking the mechanical brake is being applied? Or, should I assume that if the green bar is up and doesn't extend fully that the mechanical brakes are NOT being applied at all and that it's all engine slowing it down?

3. Similar to #2 - I notice at times when coming to a complete stop, a noise that sounds like something mechanical engaging. It's a soft sound, not a loud one. It sometimes also occurs if I'm braking into a tight curve with a bit of velocity, and I quickly release the brake and press the accelerator - the sound at times comes quickly (and there's a slight jolt of the car along with it as I quickly go from braking to accelerating).

4. Charge port doors - can you open them when the car is unlocked but you don't have the key on you? Or is the FOB always required to be on you to open them? Same question I guess for the Frunk and trunk too.

5. Manoeuvring assist - what does this setting do?

6. Headlights when unlocked - how do you turn them off when the car is parked and unlocked?

7. Carwashes & CC - I had STEK PPF put on and IGL Shield Kenzo ceramic coat over top. Driving it almost daily I have salt all the time on it. My PPF guy recommended the touchless car washes only every 2 weeks and not more often to preserve the coating. Is it better to do it more often than that vs. having the salt layer sitting on it instead? What does every one do?
7. If you don’t plan to wash yourself, a touchless wash every couple of weeks is the next best thing in winter. Don’t go more often. The risk isn’t worth the benefit.

Isn't the purpose of ceramic coating on top of PPF to prevent grime adherence and make washing easier with the friction of a wash mit ? In that case, the rationale for a ceramic coat one can't wash is lost on me ?

It’s just to wash less frequently to make the coating last longer.

I thought that the purpose of the coating was to help make the car look pretty more of the time.
It is, and to make washing easier yes.
But again, as I said, I’m trying to find a balance between that and making the coating last longer over the years.
My PPF guy says a touch less every 2 weeks in winter is that balance. I’d like to wash it more often to keep it cleaner (rather than have the salt sit on it just for the interest of not going for another wash within a couple weeks).
I’m wondering here if others with the coating have washed more often than two weeks but noticed the coating has worn off or held up.

After PPF on the front and ceramic coating I treated the car gently (as you are suggesting), but at some point I realized this meant driving a dirty car, and I hate that.

Our local car wash uses fabric (not brushes) and has a pull through surface that doesn't use steel rails to guide the tires (basically the car sits on a rolling surface with no tire motion at all). This last part is critical as I have 21" Mission-E wheels and steel rails would chew them up. I decided to get an annual membership to this car wash and the "Best" option includes ceramic coating as a finishing step. So now I'm washing the car at least once a week (Seattle so sometimes more often).

Can't say for sure what is happening but the surface doesn't appear to have any marks AND I love driving a clean car ?

Where is this car wash? I'm in the Seattle area too and have ceramic and mission E wheels as well!

There are two I’m aware of, both Brown Bear Car Washes —
  • 8296 Avondale Way NE, Redmond WA 98052
  • 55 NW Gilman, Issaquah, WA 98027
I’m told that all the “new” Brown Bear car washes have the rolling surface, but I’m only aware of these two at present.

NOTE - If you decide to go with an Annual Pass, be aware that there is a 25% discount both at Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day.

One more thing on car play. I have a 2021 so I am not sure if 2025 is the same but because of the double glass the phone has to use the booster which is in the charging port area of the center console. Once I put my phone in the charger the signal is improved and CarPlay has connected every time. No idea why that would make a difference, but it clearly did.

Just reporting back that I tried this today and unfortunately it did not work. Plus, my Carplay stayed off for an entire 1+ hr trip. Locked and walked away, and came back 1/2 hour later and it immediately connected to Carplay.

Unfortunately, this did not help me either, today.

A question about optimal charging and battery temp:

Should I be doing anything to best protect the battery during daily charging?
Is it still ok to just plug in and charge or should I be doing something to help warm the battery first?
I know I can just plug right in and direct charge at any time, but my battery temp especially in winter is only 5-10 degrees if the car has been sitting for a while.
