Done it - 4S CT J1.1 swapped for 4S ST J1.2

Done it - swapped from a MY22 4S CT to a j1.2 4S ST.
Initial thoughts:

• Oak Green is amazing.
• 7% more range on my return journey in the j1.2 verses the outgoing journey min the j1.1. Different time of day and traffic, so not a scientific test. 3.2m/kWh in j1.2.
• Indicated range seems to be circa 50 to 70 extra miles. Very welcome. Won’t know for certain what the improvement is for a few weeks.
• Ride is significantly more harsh - harder ride, lots more road noise, it hates certain road surfaces. Not sure yet how much it’s down to being a ST, having 21” rather than 20” wheels and being on Goodyear rather than Michelin. I’l swap to Michelin once the tyres are battered and hope this improves it.

Overall, after just 2 hours of driving I’m very happy.

CT has soft-road pretensions, while the ST is intended to be an on-road performer, right?

21" per se aren't the issue but rubber will be. I find the ride sublime on 21" and little difference to the 20" that i had on my 4S saloon (same Pirelli rubber).

CT setup is different to ST where you have less ride height remember.

I do notice a small difference in ride between my 20" winter wheels and 21" summer wheels but based on my vehicle dynamics experience I would expect the ST to have worse ride on poor roads simply because it has 15mm less bump suspension travel.

If you drive on nice smooth roads it may be barely noticable.

@W1NGE lives in the part of the UK my wife comes from and we visit friends and relatives there and I can attest even the B roads there are (far) superior in smoothness to the A roads in Oxfordshire where I live.

When I chose my Taycan I was looking for a quiet comfortable car with a good turn of speed when I wanted, I already had a sports car. I did not consider a saloon or, later, the ST even though I don't like the plastic wheel arch cladding of the CT simply because it was inevitable they would have potentially inferior ride and I have experience of the roads I use most.

So as a vehicle dynamicist it is no surprise the ST has an inferior ride to the CT on bad surfaces it would be weird if it didn't, OTOH it depends strongly on the type of road whether the difference is a problem or not.

After another drive, I wonder if some of the firmness is also due to the 18 way verses comfort seats in my CT.
I'll probably need a few hundred miles to dial-in to it.

I honestly doubt that is part of the reason.

Depends on what you mean by firm - normally suspension related.

The overall solution here is Porsche Active Ride.

Glasgow has a demo loaded MY25 4S ST with PAR - £89K , 4.5K miles, £40K mark down on new (scary or what??).

Yep, considered that one. Great spec and price.
However, I wanted roof rails or bike prep and also RAS.
Also, I needed new or demo for corp tax purposes. (Can't recall though if this one was privately owned - I looked at so many online.)
It also had the smaller battery.

I had a loaner J1.2 CT and it was noticeably softer than my J1.1 ST.

I am considering going the other way: ST to CT or I may just go Macan or even Polestar 3. I want the added practicality of the ride height. However, if a discount is big enough on a J1.2 CT I will consider

Enjoy. The ST is a lovely car and the handling IMO is superior to that of a CT on nice roads. Just not on rubbish ones! ?
