My MY25 Taycan started having intermittent problems with the charging port door on the passenger side 2 days after I brought it home from the dealer. This typically showed up as the door closing only halfway after unplugging the charging cable, then staying half open. I could cause it to recycle if I waited about 30s and triggered the door again, but it would just open fully and then close halfway again. Physically blocking the door as it started to close forced some kind of reset, after which the door would function normally until the next occurrence.

This got a little worse after the big firmware update for the J1.2 cars was performed, in December of last year. The dealer was hopeful that this would resolve the problem, but instead the behavior changed so that the door would stop halfway when opening instead of closing. The temporary "fix" of blocking the door's motion was no longer possible in this situation.

So back the car went for yet another visit, and this time the dealer had it for nearly 3 weeks, due mainly to a shortage of technicians who work on Taycans. This was also the third time the car had been in for the same problem, so it was not a great customer experience. However, they did actually fix the problem this time, and they also threw in some Porsche merchandise when I picked the car up by way of an apology for the long delay. Since other people have experienced this I thought I'd report the fix here. Hopefully this will help the next person to get this fixed more quickly.

The fix was to replace the charging port assembly, part 9J1-821-941-G, which looks like this, and costs about $900 if not covered by warranty:

Below is the technician's report. I've had the car back for about a month now, and I've had no further problems with the charging port door - I'm almost to the point where I trust it to just work now. The second part listed is a bolt for the passenger door, which surprisingly has to be removed while doing this repair in order to access the charging port.

I really wish the powered charge door was an option like on J1 cars. (Manual door was default for lower trims?)
The powered door is cool to watch once, but after that I would be fine pressing the door like any other EV or ICE car, and would have optioned my Taycan with a manual charge door.

I didn't have any problems until *after* the WRV3 update in December. The first time it happened, I was on vacation for about 10-days and left the car plugged in at home. I think others have reported that long periods of leaving the door open can cause it to happen more frequently.

Is the replacement part an improvement in design? If not, I don't see how it isn't going to eventually break again, particularly since this has been a problem before MY 25.

I had exactly the same issue on my J1.2 4S ST at the end of December.
When the reset trick stopped working I got the door to open then left it open until I could get it into OPC. Thankfully it didn't auto close as it is supposed to.
Dealer replaced AC side module then noticed that DC side was "not in spec" as the tech describe it so they ordered another module. Dealer was great, they knew i had been doing the reset trick so ordered AC module in advance which took about 5 days to arrive and I took it in the following day, they then kept it in for 2 days for the DC side module and then over the weekend for further testing.

I ordered the manual doors (on my '21) because I like simplicity (less to go wrong; KISS). Ironically, I had the right side door fail (so I could not do L3 charging). Replacing it turned out to be fairly complex but it worked. So much for my KISS planning!&^%$#

Evolved from cranky and hard to open to (eventually) would not open at all. Luckily left side was fine so L2 charging Ok - but trips were a no no.
