I heard that the Acoustically insulated laminated privacy glass option can impair the mobile signal on a Taycan.

I need to be able to make & receive calls so is that a fact or rumour ? Is that special glass a good option or better to avoid on a Taycan ? Thanks for your input

I have this issue on a GTS ST, my roof is with VLC that might be making things worse, the signal comes back when i put the phone outside of the car or open the door.

maybe country specific mobile frequencies have an impact. never had a problem with signal on my Taycan or Cayenne before that,

It's a fact that it influences GPS and mobile signals.
I have it in my Taycan and it's more a gps than a mobile problem.
When I put the phone in the middle console it's often disturbed.
When I put my phone in the phone holder left side of the steering-wheel I have hardly any issue.

I have thermal and insulated glass on all 3 cars including the Taycan.
Never had an issue with reception. Phone GPS sometimes can be disturbed in remote areas.
I am pretty sure given variations in cell phone, provider, and bands the interference level will differ.

It's a fact for me.

It does seem to depend on general signal strength, so don't think it materially impacts anything 100% of the time. But it does impact reception on the margins.

Never had an issue with GPS.

My gate blipper is temperamental in terms of where out of the 'screen I point it. Does make me suspect some frequencies are hit more than others.

Yes, Taycan has a blank (black) area: left and right from the mirror.
No problem with my Blip&Go there.

Yes, in low-signal areas it’s an issue. Can definitely tell I get better signal if I open a window. I’m still happy with the thermal properties of the glass though.

Taycan with this glass owner, and electronics engineer here...

We haven't noticed a major issue, but a general feeling that GPS reception by the phone inside the vehicle might be a bit flaky at times. If the glass is attenuating RF by some amount, then what you'd see is no problem unless the signal was already marginal (since everything is some sort of coded modulation these days). Also I wonder if it may not have a flat frequency response. Perhaps it attenuates higher frequencies more. This would jive with our experience that cell network signal don't seem much affected but GPS perhaps is (cell around here is mostly 700MHz while GPS is 1.5GHz). If you live in a place where 2+GHz is used for cell networks, possibly the problem could be worse?

Works fine with my iPhone 16 Pro but on my daughter's 15 Pro the GPS doesn't even know where she is.

I don't have any issues with cell phone or GPS reception, even when my phone is in the center console charging. I've had a Taycan without the privacy glass and surprisingly, it makes a big difference in cabin quietness. It was one option I was after on my last purchase.

I have it. Phone works perfectly. Also, quietest riding car I have. Least heat in the cabin in our Arizona sun. Besides the Taycan , I also own two Mercedes and two BMW. Get the acoustic and IR glass. It’s a game changer.

Doesn't the charging pocket thing in the centre armrest have some kind of RF relay function? - can't find anything in the manual, though.
