Guys, my Porsche dealership told me that in order to provide me with a replacement vehicle for my Taycan 4S CT, the car should be undriveable, thus if the warranty repair for example is for something else - like a faulty electric heater, they won't provide me with a replacement car.

Is that normal? I have read a lot of forum threads where you guys go for a warranty repair while your car is driveable and you still get replacement cars?

My shop has always offered a loaner. From simple hour-long oil changes up to weeks-long Taycan recalls. For me, when I book a service, they ask if I want a loaner. Sometimes means I wait a little bit longer for the appointment. All that said, I know my way around the loaner Macan more than my own cars.

I'm assuming you're asking about a loaner vehicle and not a replacement under your country's equivalent lemon law. Based on what I've read, loaner cars are only provided as a courtesy and it is not required -- you can try a different dealership/service center and call ahead to ask/schedule a loaner for a scheduled service.

At least Bulgaria has two dealerships/services although couple of hundreds kms to each other, to choose..
Our possibilities are more than limited heir Wild East. For example in my country Hungary we have one dealership/service to choose from.
If we want an alternative we have to go to different countries traveling hundreds of kms across boards.
I am a long time customer, with a MY22 Taycan GTS and a MY25 911 GT3, but getting a loaner is so extraordinary.
They have ca. 30-50 cars in service, and have 3-5 loaners, math is easy, loaners only for VIPs.

No obligation to do so and are limited by the number of loaner cars they have.

If your car broke down and you called Porsche Assistance then there is normally an obligation to provide a rental car for the period.

Heater recall work is normally a day so shouldn't be too inconvenient.

Definitely varies by dealer. Our current one has loaners, you just need to tell them in advance -- they sometimes have to move your service by a day or two to make sure a loaner is available. They seem to have an endless fleet of ICE Macan loaners though (every once in a while a Cayenne)

I would imagine the law in individual countries comes into play here?

But I would add that a failed heater is s safety issue as the car will fog up if its wet and you will not be able to see.

Never had an issue getting a loaner when the car is having waranty-work done.
You indeed may need to wait (a bit) longer to get an appointment, they usually don't have tons of loaners just sitting around.
Once had to swap the dealer loaner with some rental car (paid for by the dealer/Porsche AG) because a warranty-repair was taking much longer than expected and they needed their loaner back.
At one point their parking-lot was full of taycans waiting for heater replacements, cracked panoramic roof, etc etc
Might be country-specific, but while the car is under warranty (or having recall-work done) they have some sort of mobility-guarantee to keep you mobile for as long as the car is in their workshop/unable to drive.

when my heater failed, the service dept suggested that if the windows steamed up it may be unsafe to drive, therefore I got a replacement vehicle. This would only work in winter.

Indeed but OP (I'm sure) could get a loaner if prepared to wait on availability.

Odd that a heater replacement is being done now as reasonably all should have been tackled during the earlier recall campaign quite some time ago.

It depends.
If it's a recall you get a loaner, no question.
If it's a repair under warranty, you may get a loaner but it's not always possible due to availability.
So....I always managed to get a loaner under recall, although a few minor repairs were a case of warranty.
Better collect your issues and wait for the next recall I'd say... 🤓

It failed last winter after the recall. The electrics in the windscreen wiper have also failed twice preventing the boot (trunk) from opening

Nightmare!

I had a failure on my first Taycan 4S which failed after 2 years on the day I picked up my then new '23 GTS ST which had a stop sale because of a heater issue before pick up.

Wipers and faults - that's unbelievable really.

In my dealer in Newport Beach , CA they don’t always have loaner cars but they tell you when they will have a loaner so you can schedule your service when a loaner is available. Never had to bring the car in for an emergency and they didn’t have a loaner available.
