Just for info for others that may have had similar issues.

Originally on Octopus Go and couldn't ever get reliable connection and charging so ended up plugging in car every night and set EVSE wallbox to supply only during 2330-0530. Worked fine as 'dumb' charging.

Encouraged to move to Intelligent Octopus Go but still same issues even after technical help.

However, after email prompt few days ago to say I would be moved off IO, I tried again and the car connected first time and has charged up 'smart' flawlessly last several nights.

Point of post?....don't know if it's better Octopus/Porsche servers/car software or what, but if you've had problems, worth another try !

I’ve been in IOG for couple of years with my BMW previously and with my J1.2 4S since April. It’s worked flawlessly with my Hypervolt home pro giving me off peak electric for the whole house when the EV is plugged in even when not charging. It’s saved me a small fortune 😊. Just a tip which works for me. I set the ready time on the octopus app for 4am ( the earliest possible time) and it normally sets a schedule and starts charging as soon as I plug in maximising the off peak benefits outside of the 11.30 to 5.30 window.

Anyone with a J1.2 105kw (97kw useable) using OI via the Porsche Mobile Charger plus/ commando socket?

When I check compatibility on the Octopus website it says currently not compatible with the 97kw battery.

I'll probably stick with OVO Charge Anytime even though the charging cost is going up from 7p to 14p in November as the daytime rate isn't hiked like Octopus

In my experience, as soon as I plug in, IO go creates a schedule straight away and charges the majority of the time during peak time but I get off peak rates for the whole house as long as the octopus app creates the schedule. So my overall kWh is around 10/12p/kwh. It’s saving me a fortune 😊.

Same here with IO, after the usual 10 mins of initial charging I've been getting charge this summer in the evenings as well. This normally doesn't matter, but on a couple of occasions its meant hitting target charge rather than a bit short, small win! Doubt it will happen so much in the winter.

I've had one issue with IO in 20 months of use.

What chargers and/or communication methods are you IOG users using? I'm doing some research before a possible Taycan purchase.

I use a Myenergi Zappi wallbox (supplied and installed by Octopus). I have Octopus connect to and control Zappi, not the car. It all works without issue.

Note that when I tried having Octopus control the Taycan I found it error-prone: missed charges or charging to 100% despite settings in the app to limit to 80%.

I use a MyEnergy Zappi in ‘always on’ mode and use the car’s inbuilt timer to control when and how much charge to take.

I’m not prepared to pay £275 annually for Porsche Connect Services which is required for Octopus to control the car’s charger directly. I also don’t want Octopus controlling the Zappi either as I don’t see the value of Octopus charging outside the normal 23:30 - 05:30 window. I won’t know when they’re doing it in order to make use of the cheaper rate!

You don't need Porsche Connect services; configure Octopus to control Zappi then use the app to set how much charge you want to add each time you plug in (I set mine high and let the car profile/timer limit the charge level). You'll get cheap-rate charging outside the normal hours whenever Octopus schedules a charge - you see the charging times in the app when you plug in.

I‘m sure you’re right. I may switch to Zappi based control if Octopus threaten to move me off Intelligent and on to the more expensive Octopus Go again :giggle:

Why would they do that?
That's their rules: if you don't have a car charging regularly using intelligent scheduling they reserve the right to take you off the Intelligent Go tariff.

From their point of view it's useful to have loads of EVs all plugged in ready to take charge so they can balance their grid demand - if you're not playing ball by not allowing them to schedule charging whenever it doesn't help them.

Correct. I’ve already had to to switch from EV based scheduling to Zappi scheduling in response to a warning email from Octopus. I expect I’ll be forced to accept their Zappi schedules fairly soon too. Ah well, small price to pay for an otherwise excellent energy supply.

Thanks for the replies.

Am I right in thinking one alternative is to pay for the Connected Services and have Octopus talk directly to the car? And then potentially even use a commando socket instead of a 'proper' charger?

Correct.

However, in my experience Octopus's communication with the car can be temperamental - leading to under or over changing sessions; others here on the forum claim this works well.
