Have not realized how good Auto-regen function is … in 3.5 years….

I have never used the Auto-regen function. I was always turning it on and off manually with the steering wheel button. As the J1.2 does not have this button and I didn’t want to use the programmable button I switched it to auto-regen.

Turns out it works just great. Slows down when there is slower traffic in front of you and coasts if there is none. I am really impressed how good it works!

What a bummer that it took me 3.5 years to find out….

Anybody else “found” an unused or underrated function?

I only drive with auto regen enabled. It almost feels like a reversed InnoDrive/Acc

IMO, one of the most underrated features is the Hold brake. When you’re standing still, you just press the brake pedal a bit harder and Hold activates. I had this in my Audi before, but I’ve never had it in any rental car. Once you’re used to it, you really miss it when it’s not there.

It's so good until it stops working because of reflections or other stuff that makes the system alert that it's not functional... as far as i know there is no fix for it, that's the limitation of the system at least on cars without the radar sensor.

Oh wow, something I didn't know and which sounds very interesting. Will definitely try it tomorrow! Thanks for sharing this!

About auto-regen, I've tried it but maybe I haven't really understood it.

I always drive with regen off. It bothers me to think that regen is unnecessarily slowing the car down each time I lift the throttle.

I much prefer that the car leaves it up to me when to apply regen, by using the brake pedal.

In auto regen, it coasts unless there is a car in front of you going slower. Doesn’t seem like it slows unnecessarily.

Free-wheeling is actually banned in many states, I sent an email to Porsche about this, as early cars had it as a feature and it caused a lot of accidents, SAAB had it as a feature later because of ice on roads. That is like the one valid reason to have it off... as people instinctively lift off the gas, but the rest is a decision. The car should have it as standard, as it mimics what a gas car has, which we all grew up on. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be enabled and then you have to turn it off.

Do the brake lights come on when the Taycan is slowed down with the regen function? In our old Tesla, when you lifted off the accelerator, the brake lights would illuminate ... but the car would actually eventually come to a complete standstill - one pedal driving most of the time. Not saying that's better, just curious if anyone has actually noticed the brake lights.

I use ACC/InnoDrive with obey speed limits off, when I switch out of it I have overrun recuperation set to On for conventional ICE deceleration.

Needs a fourth setting of combined On and Auto.

Off : No overrun recuperation. Vehicle rolls (coasting).

On: Overrun recuperation with moderate vehicle overspeed deceleration.

Auto: Variable adjustment of the overrun recuperation based on data from the driving environment (as in approaching car ahead, but doesn't brake to a stop like ACC/InnoDrive).

Not unless it slows down fast.

It was on another thread but there is actually a law for thresholds of deceleration when the brake lights “can” come on and when they “have” to come on.

Tesla off throttle regen deceleration is significantly more than the Taycan.
