What is the general thought when leasing, would you still PPF the car. I always owned and therefore paint protection was a key part of ownership, what are people's thought when you lease and have to give the car back in 3 or 4 years, is it worth the spend $4-5K for front and rocker. Cheers.

Been debating the same thing because my lease is for 3 years and I know how bad some roads are.

My goal is always whenIi dispose of a car, no matter however I owned it, is to give it to the next party as close to showroom condition as possible. So while I PPF even leased cars, I am not going to suggest that it is cost effective nor financially smart to do so. But I will PPF so my next leased one too. — though on leased ones I do not do a complete body PPF, just the front facing, rock-chip-collecting panels.

$4-5k?

Definitely no. If that’s a math problem you absolutely won’t protect against that much damage.

I might consider it under $1k just to keep the car looking nice for my ownership time period.

My Taycan is 4 years old, 34,000 miles, in San Diego and no PPF just ceramic for ease of washing. If you get a foot away you would be able to find a few very small chips on the front bumper but other than that it's flawless. My car is also white so its super easy to do touch up. Dirty PPF edges and eventual yellowing will show up more on white so another reason I didn't do it. If I lived somewhere where there was snow or gravel I would do the front only but not on a lease.

Thank you Darrell, I am also in SD and moving from a blue to chalk color. I may try without it this time!

Counterpoint. Porsche leases are very picky at turn in time.

I think PPF would be smart money to prevent chips that result in respray penalties.

Come on! Will Porsche lease return really ask for thousands of dollars nit-picking normal wear and tear? How much will they ask? Let's say there is a 10% chance they will ask for $5K. Setting aside fighting them on what is considered normal wear and tear for a daily driver car (which you would very likely win, unless Porsche specifically states in their lease their cars are not built for driving, but just for garage decoration and parade driving under 20mph), let's say they actually get $5K 10% of the time. Smart money (evidence, calculation based money) is still on not paying $4K to $5K to avoid a 10% chance of having to pay $5K. What probability and damage numbers did you use for it to make sense, and did you assume full car PPF or just front and rocker?

I thought Porsche was chomping at the bit to get the CPO back and sell another car such that they'll pay the last 6 months of your lease to get you into another lease.

I’m banking on this. Also I leased for 30k miles but I saw the cap says 33k miles so does that mean I can go up 10% and still be ok? Definitely going to take them up on that if it’s the case.

Front PPF is a must in a Taycan here in the Bay Area, i have it on all taycans to avoid the lease fee and the huge amount of chips the bumper and the hood can get, i had one car with no PPF and it was a big mess after 20k miles.

I leased a Boxster S once and between paint chips, windshield cracks, leather wear and just overall miles…it was better to sell it to Carmax.
