Like others have suggested, try the Neue Klasse.
It can also keep your home powered, which is something Porsche isn't even talking about.
I had an M5 before the Taycan, didn't handle as well so I hope that's improved.

In the end though probably still prefer a j1.2 😆
That was my conclusion last year. I just can't find any other EV which has the driving experience of a Taycan - it does have the soul of a 911, if not the noise, and it is exceptional on any corner, even better on the autobahn.

If I wanted a reliable-but-dull travelling-salesman car I'd look at BMW or perhaps Polestar. If I wanted to save money I'd look at BYD. If I wanted a high tech go-cart I'd buy another Tesla.

But for real driving experience? Sadly it has to be the Taycan. Upgrading to J1.2 significantly improved its reliability and a few other things, but it has still had downtime and the service backlogs are terrible when something does break. (Perhaps it's better if you live near to a dealer, but if you need a loan car it's a long wait.)

So I am trapped in a broken support model but still loving my Taycan more than any previous car(when it works).

I've had enough now so ready to bail out, cut my losses and get rid of this car.

Nav doesn't work, no fix until June if we're lucky. I've had all the recalls, new windscreen from manufacturing fault, it's been in the OPC more than any other car I've owned, there are squeaks and rattles coming, and now the LTE is broken and they can't book me in until mid-March (they said mid-April until I pointed out I'm already booked in mid-March for something else). Porsche service (here in the UK at least) is rubbish, and while the car is a joy to drive the tech backing it up is just woeful. I don't trust the car not to let me down and I'm sick to death of wasting day after day driving to/from the OPC.

So - what do folks think is the closed EV alternative to the Taycan? I'm looking for a similar mix of driving experience/performance and prestige. Money not necessarily an object but in an ideal world I wouldn't lose 70k in 3 years again (though EVs are still developing fast, so they'll all depreciate as tech gets better)

My only other thought is to get in to a 911 GTS with the new T-Hybrid engine, but that doesn't sort the "we can't look at your broken car for 2 months if you want a loan vehicle, or a month if not" issue.
Performance when it comes to acceleration is the easiest ask on your list. Prestige? That’s much harder.

And then you’re talking about reliability and fast service…….

What you’re asking for doesn’t exist.

Basically you want a more reliable Taycan that has faster service.

So since that car doesn’t exist, where are you willing to compromise? Performance, prestige, reliability and/or service? Which is most important to you?

There lies the hurt in the whole situation - if willing to compromise reliability and service then I already have the right car. I'm just not sure what the option is when compromising on performance for example. Aston don't have an EV (to my knowledge), Audi's big EV is just the Taycan without the Porsche badge, BMWs hasn't had great feedback from friends of mine. Ferarri is a step too far for a daily drive and business use. Tesla I wouldn't touch with a barge pole because of Mr Musk, Polestar possibly but my neighbour in our holiday home has one and has spent 3 years telling me why it's better than my Taycan, so I'm not sure I could live with his smugness if I move from Taycan to Polestar.

J1.2? Sounds like Taycan is the best option. And newer is better so less issues?
If I was sticking with Porsche I’d rather wait for the next generation and make peace with not knowing whether this car will create another gremlin or not each time I use it. That could be a couple more years though and I’m not sure I can do another 6 months let alone a couple years

I've been considering the new Cayenne EV for a while as I do a lot of mountain driving. Was invited by the local dealer to a launch show in the capital over here. Nice enough SUV, and I know the Cayenne handles remarkably well also on a track. Still no demonstration cars to try at the dealer.

My experience with the Taycan leaves me somewhat undecided. I value Porsche’s strengths as a driver-focused brand, but long-term reliability is also essential for me.

Has Porsche applied the lessons learned from the Taycan to deliver a significantly more robust and reliable Cayenne EV? I’m reluctant to find myself in the role of being an early testpilot again.

Dude, you just got unlucky. I've had 0 issues with my 2023 GTS. They're not all lemons. You could buy a lemon BMW/Polestar/Audi just as easily. Like someone else said - what's most important to you? Then narrow that down. If it's a Taycan that isn't a lemon, then get Porsche to buy it back and get a J1.2. Or drive the Audi RS e-tron. I didn't like the Audi but some might disagree. BMW tech is far better than Porsche, but the driving experience is completely different. The i4 steering is numb and nothing like Porsche.

The bmw iM3 and AMG GT EV are supposed to come out this year.
Could be good contenders.

But the way manufacturers have spit out EVs recently, buying the first year basically signs you up to be a Beta tester while they work out the bugs with updates over the next few years.

I don’t think that’s what the OP wants to sign up for……again.

As far as Polestar goes, I would be shocked if they get faster service and repairs with them being built in China and extremely low sales volumes.

Beginning to wonder if the compromise for having a great driving EV is to have to put up with reliability and service issues with Porsche. Which is a sorry situation really isn’t it?

These are the only ones and its unknown. After the EQS debacle I would be skeptical with MB.

The i5 drives like a smaller i7, i4 M50 is a fantastic car, but the Taycan driving dynamics are still a step above.

Being in the UK, I would try and get my hands on a Xiaomi su7 ultra
