I recently upgraded to the J1.2 and finally have Matrix LED enabled (in Canada they have been legal for many years but we get US-specced cars so always deactivated).

1. Magic carpet
Pretty gimmicky in my opinion, gave me quite a startle when it first came on as it's very bright. As far as I can tell the distance doesn't change based on speed. Does "curve" around bends pretty well.

2. Matrix high beam
Works very well, although I think Porsche's version has a much bigger "cut -out" than other manufacturers. Overall the light is very bright and very uniform. Fairly reactive. Although advertised I dont think there are "cornering lights" - unless they're so subtle as to not notice.

Overall very impressed with these lights and happy to finally have Matrix activated

You didn’t capture the lane changes where it sees where you’re going, “magic carpet” starts covering your new lane then swipes away from the old one.
I still like how it’ll light up the sides and makes it brighter but the magic carpet is still active.

Mine have never worked well. I get flashes from other traffic always if I use the automation. I've complained it several times in service but I only get blah-blah about very good and bright lights.. True but it's very visible it often messes the shading.
Safety issue.

My 2024 GTS ST is a J1.1 but I love the PDLS+ Matrix lights on it. We live in a very rural area and the lights are absolutely superb at lighting the back roads up, especially in winter.

I still don't think they are as good as the Laser Lights I had on my G81 BMW M3 Touring but they are good enough for my needs.

Cornering lights - I'm sure I read in the manual that the more aggressive the drive mode you are in, the more functional, effective and pronounced the PDLS+ cornering effect is. So if you are in Sports Plus for example, you should notice them doing their 'thang' in a more obvious manner.

You guys are making me super jealous. I have J1.1 with Matrix and got the PIWIS connector, so now waiting on the vendor to setup time to activate mine.

Surprised that yours do not work well. Mine are absolutely great and have performed very well. I think I have only been flashed at maximum a handful of times with nearly 80 k km’s driving.

Its main benefit is to signal to other drivers that you are coming alongside them on your lane - a subtle safety cue. As such I think it works very well indeed.

For the people saying they don't work well, they may be miss aligned. In the manual there is a auto realignment procedure - it involves parking face first perpendicular at 90 degrees to plain straight wall, and living the car/lights on for 15+ minutes from what I recall.

Matrix is amazing, but even in the OP's video, if you look closely you'll see it blind the opposing driver and shines on the entire car, roof and tailgate included, for about a second. This is from the main/high beam, which is controlled by the matrix light system and likely would not be influenced with headlight/low beam calibration.

I’m also getting FOMO. How did you get PIWIS? Or is it just the connector and someone else has it?

I just bought the $45 connector and waiting for the installer to schedule the time to code. The process is to install PIWIS on a computer then connect to the car, then the installer remote controls into the computer to perform the coding. The PIWIS install is temporary, so this is not something I need to buy and keep.

Do you get to keep the software? Also curious to know how it works because from what I’ve read you’re supposed to kill the internet connection which is needed for remote connecting to the computer 🤔
