Why do people always try to spread unnecessary fear on threads like this?

Statistics on the warranty payouts tell the opposite story: the likelihood of a repair exceeding the warranty cost is more like 1 in 8. Source: every independent study on warranty costs and claims.

The Taycan repairs may be more frequent and more expensive, but that’s why the warranty costs are significantly higher.

My Trashcan has three excel pages of errors (not all written there).
It has spent over 11 months at dealer's repairs.
Last 5 thousand km has been rather OK but:
- only one key FOB functional. Needs coding at Porsche after rear control module change
- camera errors continue. Porsche claims there's fault in glass but what I found is very dirty glass inner surface. Original glass. The surface has been open last time at the factory!
- battery balance after Porsche repairs looks like this when battery empty

So this is OK for Porsche.

This car has been terribly unreliable. Clearly my last Porsche.

Statistics are great. Until you're on the wrong end of them.

I agree that you never see a poor warranty/insurance company

But for the type of car Porsche sell, their warranty positions are not horrendously expensive.

I've run Ferraris and Astons without warranty cover and had nothing go wrong (that would have been covered by warranty). But their warranties were 2-3x or more expensive. And the costs of parts and especially labour not disproportionately different.

It's a risk/reward decision that only an individual can decide what's best for them in terms of peace of mind.

As for the original question...the internet's a great leveller, but you undoubtedly get way more of the "issues" than the "positives". It's also very difficult/impossible to know whether you are seeing the same instance repeated multiple by times on the same car, or a genuine systemic issue.

I am super critical of the way Porsche have handled many of the genuine systemic issues, and will continue to be as they do not seem to be learning. But...

...for all the common ones they do now seem to have remedies and do eventually get round to applying them. Sometimes needing a push to do so.

My car has been very good and never (to date) left me stranded. Sure, there are annoying niggles. And I'm sure when I am told my offside squeaking in the front suspension area isn't covered by warranty and will cost the National Debt of Chile to repair, I will be back on here moaning. But am not sure, when you consider the type of car this is, the "experimental" nature of the design for the manufacturer etc, they aren't that bad at all.

Key thing. Buy wisely. Do your homework. Ask the vendor which campaigns have been done, which are outstanding and cross-reference with here to make sure all the big ticket stuff has been done. If it hasn't, walk away. Doesn't necessarily mean an inherently bad car...but you want owners to be on the ball with their cars and this could be an indication they haven't been.

In the market to buy a CPO Taycan, and noticed a trend where Taycan owners would make posts detailing dozens of issues with their car, followed up by other owners in the comments claiming their car’s been completely problem free. Are Taycans really that different in build quality?

Extreme views often surface on social media, and those posts tend to provoke equally strong reactions. To me, that’s a good reason not to rely on social media too heavily.

I've owned my 4S since April of 2025. I bought it on the open market. It's been very reliable although I've had several warranty issue's mostly software and one wiring problem. I did buy an extended warranty just before mine ran out only because I listened to the people on forums highly recommending it. One thing I wanted to say was you're probably going to pay a premium buying from a dealer. There are plenty of used cars available to choose carefully from. Good luck I feel confident you're going to enjoy the car.

Yup, those things happen, but it’s pretty rare.

Again, unnecessary fear. Never been a fan of fear based selling of products. Usually means the product sucks.

Ive had two Tycans. The first was a massive disaster in software. I even created a diary to show Porsche that software issues delayed my leaving home every morning by at least 30 minutes.

I traded it ins for a Taycan GT. Outstanding software. But, I've had it 18 months and have used it less than 9 because of mechanical issues. In fact I haven't seen it in six months!!! They can't figure out what the issue is.

Don't get me wrong, every car has some good cars, and some with issues, but when Porsche in 6 months can't figure out why the car doesn't work, come on!

To me Taycan has been a black eye for Porsche.

I think that is the source of issues, but the LG battery quality is not really their fault, just an unfortunate consequence. I have a 2020 turbo s that needed a new battery, now runs great. I have a 2025 turbo GT that has been great.

Porsche is literally the single manufacturer, out of a handful that have had the same issue with the LG cells, that has refused to replace affected batteries BEFORE they brake down; and instead chose a monitoring software solution for a hardware problem.

So let’s keep it real

Only porsche chose the “premium” treatment for customers to risk a fire and to have their cars breaking down on autobahns. Only porsche.

All other manufacturers chose to replace the batteries in full, on LGs dime. Wonder what porsche did with LGs dime?

Porsche, like any manufacturer, IS responsible for what they sell. Noboby should think it is OK to point to a supplier and say: "not my fault; it's theirs" ...Porsche's choice of (and ongoing use of) a supplier is on THEM.

Anecdotally, I would say this point makes the case. Many of the Taycan owners I know don't even know this forum exists –> And most have have no problems with their cars. I'm a lucky J1.1 owner (MY21) who has had a great experience, paid attention to the service bulletins, and have a very good dealer, Redwood City Porsche in Redwood City, CA.

I'd say that some of the problems deal with the fact that you're driving a software defined machine vs. a machine that uses some software to run.

I've been disappointed with the fact that Porsche hasn't allowed me to upgrade my software to the point it won't cause some of the issues I have, even though the hardware supports it.

This is VERY different than the issues some are having electrically, in my case it's things like my 24 could run the latest PCM software, but they won't upgrade it since "Porsche says so", same problem with Matrix headlights, etc.

The rattly trunk is a recall, and the heater was a recall, other things were warranty items...
I'd own the car under warranty, I'm not sure I would without one!

I have a Taycan Turbo 2020. Love the car, when it works. Bought with 4900 miles, at 6200 miles the battery went. 3 defective cells, over 3 months in service. From 3/26 to 7/26, 4 Turtle Modes, 3 after Porsche tried to fix it. It’s been another 45 days in service. All in over 140 days of service in 2.5 years. That’s unacceptable for a car I paid over $106k for. I wouldn’t touch a Taycan before the 2025 model
