Hi all. New to forum. Have recently taken delivery of RWD Taycan in Ice Grey and waiting for a home charging point. Currently charging at local Chargeplace Scotland points etc.
Questions and advice please:
-what is the max you should charge to regularly?
-i have the 93 kwh battery but max miles only ever shows at 211 maximum!
-does it harm the battery of you regularly charge to 100%
TIA

Porsche recommends repeated charging to be done to 85% for longer battery life.
Your car needs to adjust to your driving style. The range should increase with time.

Welcome!

Remember that not all of the 93 is available to you to use. Base your calcs on 88.

Your range will creep up over time and you should regularly expect around 204 miles on an 85% charge and 230+ with 100%.

Charging to 100% for daily purposes and doing short miles is not ideal. Charge to 100% if going on a long journey and don't let the car sit with a full charge for days on end.

Full cycle charges from 0% to 100% are the concern but typically you will mostly be topping up from 40% - 85% which is not a full cycle.

As a rule of thumb charge to what you need rather than always fill the tank.

85% is the recommended maximum for daily requirements. Battery has an 8 year warranty but keep within the manufacturer's recommended charging limits.

Shop around for s good electric tariff. SSE will give you 8000 EV off peak charging miles per year for free for example.

Are you planning on using your Porsche charger at home?

85% is good enough and I’m sure not updated everywhere. Annoyingly if this were a real requirement Porsche would have to contact owners and make them aware which as we know, they won’t.

80% - 85% will do - feels like we are already short changed on our range never mind slipping in incremental reductions.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

Thanks for that. V helpful. I have a 7kw wallbox going in next week at home but don't plan to use the Porsche charger...I understand it was for emergency use only ? And would take about a year to charge from a 3 pin?
As an aside came across nuisance factor today....2 bays...van in right side bay so couldn't connect CCS charger to left side of car without parking sideways ?

If you can get 7 kW from a wall box, you can get 7 kW from the Porsche charger. No need to splash out more money.

The Porsche Charger Connect can charge up to 22 kW with three phase installation.

The standard charger you get with the car is most definitely not for emergencies (!) whoever told you that should be named and shamed!

It comes with a 13A plug and and supply connector for a 32A single phase supply perfect for your 7.4kW supply. I would swap the two.

On the 3 pin you'll get 3.2kW charge which is glacially slow but like I say it's a get out of jail measure.

It is mobile and can be taken with you if you go off grid and used as a get out of jail measure.

Public charging can be a mare but normally ok - there are always inconsiderate drivers.

BP are rolling out 150kW chargers to their petrol stations and Shell have various 50kW chargers (also about to be upgraded). So there are many options.

If not done so already download ZapMap and you'll be amazed what's in your neighborhood.

This is really helpful guys. I was told the Mobile Charger Connect was exactly that...for emergencies really as way too slow hence the wallbox order. I only have the option of connection to a 3 pin socket at present (no industrial socket available) and have single phase supply. I presume that means v v v slow charging??

Single phase supply with a 32A supply from your fuse box will give you 7.4kW no question. This is perfect for your charger.

If you don't do this then you are limited and your output will be reduced to 3.2kW on any type of connector - same as a 3 pin 13A plug.

Engage a competent electrician who can look at your fuse box to determine if there is a spare slot for a 32A fuse and hence a dedicated supply for your charger. If not then a mini supply board can be added to extend what you have and achieve the same thing.

Home charging at 3.2kW is sub optimal at best and will take twice as long to achieve the same charge. 7.4kW is the best compromise for home charging and top ups.

Yes with a three pin 13 amp socket it will take some time to fully charge the battery. Perhaps some 24 hours from low state of charge to full. I do not know how the U.K. 13 amp plugs are rated, but I suppose they are not designed for 13 amp continues use. If similar to other places than perhaps 10 amp is a safe level? And that would only give you 2.4 kW!

You can in most countries specify an additional cable FOC to connect to a single phase 32 amp socket, normally red colour. You will need to install a new cable and fuse etc in your main panel for this. But that will be the same installation as is needed for your wall box! That will then give you the desired 7 kW power.

But I guess there may be grants of different types when installing a new wall box, which are not available otherwise. I guess that could be part of the advise you have received?

It would take days to charge - everything slows down towards 100%.

13A gives a max 3.2kW.

Thanks for this. The company who are installing say they will be adding an additional mini fuse box for this charger socket. ....wish I'd paid more notice in physics now as the kwh etc etc stuff is doing my head in ? ...let's charge it and drive it like it was designed for !!

Perfect. So get the sparky to commission your Porsche Charger as there are many benefits to keeping within the Porsche ecosystem such as car and the Porsche App / My Porsche integration.

Ensure you have WiFi access to hook the PMCC up. If not WiFi then it will support Power Line Communication (PLC).
