I have been planning a number of East Coast (Northeast) trips including mapping out charger locales enroute. I have been pleasantly surprised by how many EA chargers are in key locales and how "powerful" they are. All, so far, are 350 KW.

I am severely disappointed, however, by the lack of "powerful" non-EA chargers. I have not seen one over 60 KW. They must exist but I'll be damned if I have seen them in my planning.

In actual use (a small sample so far - but growing), they (EA) have charged quickly and gave me free charging without a hassle.

I have seen one Chargepoint 150kw charger over here on the west coast; most of their DC fast chargers though are the 05kw variety. Even for EA, out here I only have one 350kw charger in a reasonable driving range; and that wasn't giving me the full 270kw charging either (the battery wasn't warm enough to charge at full power.)

Charging infrastructure is IMO the single biggest hurdle to EV adoption right now.

there is a huge difference between locations and working locations with EA - I’d be much more interested in a “shout out” to EA once you’ve experienced the power and reliability that _IS_ the EA network…

get back to us when you’ve actually used some of these locations vs. just planning to use them.

this isn’t Tesla’s supercharger network, you can’t just assume they will be working.

Just returned San Francisco to Portland and back. Needed EA assistance on 50% of the EA locations. Grants Pass, Oregon was completely down. EA unable to help. I've found myself holding my breath when I initiate a charge. Adds an uncomfortableness that discourages road trips if another car is available.

Thanks for that update. Because of information you guys post about some EA stations not working, I'm slightly hesitant about taking my Taycan on a road trip here in the South. Do you think it will help to keep a Tesla adapter to give more options?

the more options you have to get a charge the better. when I had my very early tesla, before the charging network was built out like it is today I always took my evse along on road trips, in addition I had a chademo adaptor, a 14-50 50 amp extension cord for campsites, and a heavy duty 100 foot 110 extension cord in the car. these days with the charging network coverage being so extensive I don't bother with carrying all the extras. now I just have the teslatap adaptor.

so to answer your question yes, get a 60 or 80 amp teslatap adaptor

Do you use plugshare? It shows a lot of recent successful charges on the grant pass EA location.. (and no negative comments). doesnt mean you did not have an issue - but I do use plugshare as a way to see if EA sites are prone to charging issues.. but it does rely on people putting comments both positive and negative to ensure its usefullness...

there seem to be some cars like his and mine that have some sort of flaw that inhibits the communication between the car and the chargers. I too have never been able to get plug and charge to work and it is a toss up whether I have to call EA to get the charging started.

I'm in the process of moving so my home setup is not up and running. I used a local EA 150kW charger tonight. I just got my car back from the software update yesterday. The charger hit 150kW even without a low SOC.

How do you get that to show KW? Mine just shows miles/minute.

tap on the mi/hr charge number - and it toggles to the kW display - this works for both L2 and FastDC charging.

On a related note, is there any way to get the mileage remaining number in the binnacle (under the speedometer) to show battery percentage instead of miles?

Under Settings > Displays> Instrument Cluster, you can customize the right side display to include things like battery percentage and battery temp

I’ve not found a way to change the battery SOC indicator on the center scope-bottom to show % - but I do have battery % on the information data on the right-scope as noted above.

if anyone has steps to change the center-scope-bottom to battery % it would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Thus far I'm using that display to show trip stats so I can see how efficiently I'm driving. Not sure what I'll go with long term, but probably not the one you have shown as it seems like mostly redundant info.
