What do you do with your Porsche Mobile Connector?

For those with a home charger, what do you do with the Porsche Mobile Charger and case?

For those that have installed home chargers, what do you do with the Porsche mobile connect charger that came with the car? Do you carry it around in the front trunk or back? It's heavy and steals most of the space. Thoughts?

Why would you ever keep this heavy thing in the car? There is no point to it. Never used it once in 3 years.

I take out spare tires out of my SUVs to save weight and only carry auto injectable tire sealant using OEM compressor.

You can put a Tesla mobile connector and TeslaTap quite comfortably in the sub-trunk and lose no trunk space.

The giant suitcase goes in a closet until the car is sold.
Same here, I did take it out once to confirm my Taycan's OBC died (so I can tell the dealer I tried it with Porsche EVSE), but other than this, I have zero use for it. I definitely don't want this brick to take up space and weigh down the car for no reason.

It's called Mobile Connect because it can be moved to another location. However, it should really be used as a wallbox-type of EVSE. It's a quite feature rich EVSE.

What features? PMC+ is a dumb EVSE, so much larger and heavier, and less reliable than almost anything else you can buy. PMCC at least has some cloud integrations, but still less features and less reliable than other (much less expensive) connected EVSEs. The only feature PMCC has over most other EVSE's is the ability to retrieve the car's SoC, but given there isn't anything it will do with that information, it's just there in case you want to look at PMCC screen instead of the car screen next to it.

Tesla Mobile Connector with numerous wall adapters and TeslaTap (or other NACS to J1772 adapter) is still smaller and lighter than either PMCC or PMC+.

I use it as my primary home EVSE / charger and has been 100% perfect. I was fortunate to get the more expensive Porsche Mobile Charger Connect due to supply issues in 2020 and kept it through both my Taycans. I have it in the Porsche Dock waiting for my next EV adventure.

The case I keep in the garage.

In UK / EU no EVSE is supplied as standard now.

As you know I have to challenge the reliability statement...this is a NA specific problem.

PMCC Integrates well with My Porsche App and displays useful telemetry data for charging sessions.

PMC+ is networkable via ethernet.

Agreed but also can provide 22kW with a suitable supply. Not all versions of the PMCC offer this - mine can but I don't have the necessary 3 phase supply.

"Connect" - because it is WiFi enabled for cloud connection to your My Porsche account.

Mobile Connect can do power load management and supports EEBus connetion to any kind of Home Energy Management System (HEMS; you don't have to buy Porsche's). It does vehicle reconition and therefore can communicate to HEMS which car is connected so that appropriete charging profile can be applied. It can also communicate SoC to HEMS. It supports phase1/3 switching, allowing HEMS to charge the car with a specific phase or with all three (useful when HEMS is also connected to PV). It can do all this without Internet connection. There's also strong indication that it can do bidirect charging. I have not found a charger that can do all this at all, in such a small package, let alone to be mobile. Granted, none of this might of interest to you and therefore you can see it as a brick, but that doesn't change facts. It's not perfect, but it's one of the best, if not the best, chargers out there. Even the new Porsche Wallbox is strugling to be on pair with it.

The PMCC is too large to bring along, we can agree on that. But if you get the different connectors, ie 16 amp and 32 amp, one or 3 phase, it can be very useful on road trips off the beat and track. We often can get some decent power with it in the remote mountain villages here. Getting help from local farmers or larger hotel estates that have some heavy ma hinery and plug in at 3 phase helps.

I have a 3 phase connection at 32 amp at home and it works great up to 22 kW. The fact that it can do load balancing with a HEM helps a lot. And it has been very reliable when used at home. Using it fixed to the wall it gives 0 problems. And you can get the charging curve over internet after a charge. It is fully on par with our early Tesla Wall Charger, that is hard wired. The early one does not have any internet access but fixed in place.

But fully agree it is a big package to bring along as a nanny charger for a 1 phase operation. The Tesla UMC is much handier.

The price for it though has been and is ridiculous compared to a Tesla UMC

I have the dumb mobile charger and it’s what I use to charge my car on a 50amp circuit.

I’ve been carrying it all this time “just in case” but I’m thinking I’ll be like others and leave it behind, only take it during trips.

I'm in the minority and use the PMCC in the Porsche Charging Dock as my primary EVSE. It's replaced a Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector (now kept in a box), plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, and it's easy to unplug should that ever be needed (ex. if service asks for it). The previous owner of my car had the power cord recall and I've seen firmware updates on the PMCC. It's been happily feeding electrons to my Taycan (and service loaners) for 6,142 kWh and counting. Once or twice the charging was interrupted due to the PMCC overheating inside the dock (?); I've added a USB fan inside the dock and it's been solid.

My other EV, a Model 3, is plugged into a Tesla Gen 2 Wall Connector. Both are plugged nightly and have been equally reliable.

For long trips where charging is necessary, I use the Tesla mobile charger with adapters and that goes in the car we're taking (Model 3 or Taycan). +TeslaTap in the Taycan.

In my garage, PMCC case sits under the charger which is also the happy home of a CTEK Lithium 12V charger. I installed a Porsche basic wall mount for the plug so it's conveniently next to the car's charging port.

Also I love the design of the dock + PMCC; It's the first thing I see when pulling into my garage, and I have an occasional standing desk next to it.
