Porsche is about to be bombared with competition in most markets beside NA.

Example:

I posted this in another thread, but Porsche clearly advertises itself as a Ferrari competitor by 2030 in all investor calls, selling less for more, more scarcity to drive up desirability

So by that logic, the only cars that I would expect to remain in their lineup come 2030: 911 Hybrid, Panamera in all 3 drive train as a ultra luxury sedan; and the K suv in all 3 drive trains as a ultra luxury SUV. You can add to that a 2 door hypercar. All of these priced at 500k-2mil.

I think the 718EV is too far into development for them to cancel - basically ready for production, and it is a shared project with Audi. So would expect a "limited" run of 4-5 years until 2030, and then it goes to the bin also, similar to Taycan.

I don't think they see any market for their "premium" cars to sell at 200k or below, as the market is ultra competitive, and at that price point they aren't "rare" enough to be desirable. So starting development on a brand new 718 Hybrid seems like a waste of money.

I hope we see these (and other competitors) come to the US, at least through non-Chinese partners.

I'm pretty sure they will axe the Panamera not the Taycan, looks like the Panamera is still managing to sale better then they Taycan world wide but in the US last year they sold about the same (4-4.5k)

Not a chance as Polestar has been booted out of the US market.

If that were true, Polestar would still be in US.

It was running USA code... google in fact Google automotive, with 0 Polestar or Volvo or Chinese code.

But it was using battery cells from China, with the full battery modules & enclosure being assembled in europe.

Porsche may have a brief window to sort out their survival lineup, but it will not be open very long. Frankly, I am not optimistic. I do not think that Porsche as a brand will survive as we know it today. It may survive as a legacy boutique brand, but it will be a very different OEM. The traditional supporter of the brand is aging out, has aged out or has rejected the current value proposition. Their Chinese market has collapsed. They cannot compete with Chinese cars in Europe, now or ever with their labor and tax structure.

Younger folks don't embrace the racing heritage or enginnering. They want a smart phone with wheels. They have lived long enough to understand that technoloy has a limited useful life. They also understand that there is no justifiable reason to pay exorbinat prices for a vehicle that will be technologically obsolete in a few years.

Simply stated Gen Y and Z have a very different value system than Boomers or Gen X. If Porsche can't design and create cars that they want, the handwriting is on the wall.

Staying away from politics here, but I think it's safe to say change is inevitable.

I would rather think they will have an EV Panamera version rather than a Taycan. It is rather a rebranding in my opinion rather than a pure cancellation. There were such rumors more than a year ago for this to happen.

That makes more sense.

It's very said to see the reaction of EU and US based car companies. They all saw it happen over 10 years ago through Tesla and ignored it until it was too late. Fortunately it was a relatively minor shot off the bow.

Rinse and repeat now but it's a direct hit that will likely sink most of these ships.

Strange. VW is dropping many models because of overlaps amongst them. But as for today, nothing replaces the Taycan totally. Not even models from other companies. Best I can think of is AMG-GTXX in the near future or the Polestar 5.

Porsche has already got the J1 platform up and running why dont they just keep building it? Taycan's factories should be fully depreciated by now? Thought they could stop developing the J2(?) for a couple of years until EV picks up again. Porsche could do with a facelift/PCM update/Battery chemistry update for the time being aka J1.3

Plenty of people do; just not at 100-250k

they want them at 40-70k

That’s the value the market thinks is fair for this car - based on the competition it has paired with its issues and it being a 4 door car.

And after sitting in the xpeng p7+, I find it impossible to justify a 150-200k premium over that car that porsche asks for the taycan. Yes, it drives better, but not 5x better. At anything else, it’s ineferior
And most people don’t care that it drives better… if they did, driving focused options would have a value higher than 0 on the 2nd hand market.

Whelp. Just got mine last year and I have no intention of selling. Maybe the Taycan will have a vintage following in 10 years when there are no more on the road but EV tech has improved that people will want to buy one just to get a 400 mile version.

Makes sense. I do not see a reason for Taycan to live on with 4 door sedans in general slow sellers, electric ones in particular, brutal depreciation for short hold owners, and so high priced to get J1.1 owners to upgrade to J1.2. CT models gone for 2027 for the US, Model S already gone, Lucid Air is a disaster, BMW/MB may be selling a few 4 door electrics.

I think if 2027 is the last year for the Taycan then extra depreciation hit is likely for all owners as this will signal support wind down, higher prices for maintenance, and who would want a discontinued electric car as a trade-in.

Change depreciation to short term appreciation. Tesla S & X were discontinued and some are now listed for $50K above new.

I really like my J1.1, I am currently warranty + CPO until 2030 summer, and battery until 2032ish… my current plan was to drive it through that or a battery tech jump. Will let this play out a bit . Building a similar car to mine is cost prohibitive as it is. Happy I found it with a lot of depreciation baked in …
