2023 Base model Taycan
Country flag
Three months, 6400 miles. Reading everyone’s posts can be a little scary because the problems being posted about can sometimes be serious. I realize that the great majority of Taycan owners on this forum have few to no problems, but monitor the site due to genuine interest in the car. I kind of fall into that category. Here’s a little brief update on just one Taycan.

PRO: As everyone knows, this is one gorgeous car. It is truly head turning, which is pretty cool in and of itself. I only have the base model, but it is plenty quick enough for me. (I can’t even imagine the trouble I would get into if I had a turbo!) The range estimator is pretty accurate and I agree with someone else’s description of the AC as "arctic". I have had no issue with the car charging from either side of vehicle. I have only fully charged to 100% one time when making a brief trip about 200 miles away round-trip. I usually charge up every night at my house to 85% which provides a range of about 225 to 235 miles. biggest pro of all: it drives like a Porsche.

CON: About four or five days after getting the car, I started the car one morning, but was greeted with a blank screen with just “Taycan“ on display. Nothing else. I was, however, able to drive the car. Needing to get to work, I then drove to work without incident and parked. When I returned to the car and turned it on, it was back to normal. This happened one other time about a month later, and I simply turned the car off, went back into the house and made a few phone calls, came back out about 30 minutes later and restarted the car and everything was fine. A similar issue popped up twice concerning the AC. I started the car one morning and the usual frigid air was not blowing cold. I turned the car off and then back on, and the problem was fixed. Same thing happened a few weeks later with the same fix. I have come to the conclusion that the car really is like a giant computer and while it won’t fix every problem, turning it off and then turning it back on really does fix some of the issues (at least in my case). The biggest negative in my opinion really isn’t with the car, but the charging network in my area (Louisiana). Simply put: not enough charging stations (nearest supercharger 45 miles away), ICE parked at EV charging stations, no available charging stations due to other vehicles charging, non-operational charging stations for days at a time.
Having said all of that, my car certainly meets my daily driving needs, (although in a perfect world, I‘d have 300 miles of range on an 85% charge).

GRADE: A (I can’t help it, I really love this car.)?

I am also 90 days in and 1,500 miles in a 2023 with similar feedback:

Good stuff: Looks and drives amazing, which is why I bought it. Still super rare to see one around, so it seems to surprise other drivers all the time. Charging at home is great and now local EA stations went from 2 in the area to 3, with dealer now having 2 charging stations, and then EVGo close by with all not needed unless I have an issue charging at home.

Does not bother me stuff: Getting in and out. Range could be better for longer trips given few EAs where I would go out of town. PCM stuck at Taycan one time only as you mention and would not boot up, gave me a bit of a scare but Intersection Alert still worked while I was in park, then after power down/power up all returned back to normal. SoH dropped to 95% after 1,000 miles but seems to level off now with overall consensus that the battery will outlive the car.

Tech: This is by far the most advanced car I have had since this is my first EV and first with any type of Assistance systems including LKA/ACC tech which is not new. I have yet to use Remote Park from inside or as remote control outside to see how that works. Need more time to use InnoDrive but so far it drives and steers but as others mention, speeds up a little too quickly when it sees an opening. I do not have any issues with PCM but a few wishes. PCM 5 in our Cayenne has a tag artist/song as favorite feature in XM but PCM 6 in Taycan does not. PCM 5 has multi tile home screen that I prefer to only 3 tile in Taycan. I wish they retained physical buttons for HomeLink, but I am ok just operating one door from the diamond button. Porsche Design clock is underwhelming due its poor contrast and night lighting, so wish I stuck with the standard Chrono clock that looks much cooler at night. Everyone agrees that Surround View cameras are not good due to fish eye, I was in a few rentals and they are just superb like 4k super HD looking compare to the Taycan (Audi A4, BMW X5, RR Evoke)

Concerns: Recent recall for sealant because I just do not want them to mess with the car, but if HV battery found compromised, not even sure how long the replacement battery will take to arrive but hope in time before electrical faults start showing up. Since my PPF shop water damaged my rear door card leather, the replacement has no ETA or cost estimate, so any leather interior parts are pretty much not possible to get if you need them, including a steering wheel if leather is damaged on it. Port damaged the door rubber seal and frunk enclosure and those came in quickly for replacement.

GRADE: A+ (love it grading it on a curve that involves the heart)

I got my CT 4S at end of March after a 14 month wait. We have had a couple of long trips / holidays to North Wales and York. We have racked up 4500 miles at roughly 2.9 miles / kwh and 250 ish miles range at 100%

Charging has largely been a dream as have chosen to charge at Porsche dealers (as half the price of other networks in UK) or Ionity ( cheaper still at 15p/ kwh). I also head for places where there are four or more chargers (see picture) like this BP one east of York. Some motorway service areas are pants with too few and some ideal.

I am so glad i got solar panels with a Zappi charger at home as have taken advantage of free top ups. My Autumn plan is to move to Intelligent Octopus tarrif for cheap overnight top ups when sun is absent during the day.

The car is so calming and comfortable to drive, we loooooooove it! I lusted after an Aston until I saw Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear fail many times to keep it in a straight line. He argued with Hammond about his BMW 8 series saying “but you would not want to lick a BMW, unlike the Aston”. Well I wanted to lick the Taycan and have made an excellent choice- at least with4 wheel drive it keeps in a straight line or wherever you point it.

problems? None so far apart from narrow roads in Cornwall and parking spaces that are often too small.
Good luck to all owners and those thinking of having a Taycan

Love this thread! I am also 3 months in with 2,500 miles on my MY23 4S. I LOVE my car. It’s my first Porsche and my first EV.

Grade: A+

What I like
  • Excellent styling: Love the car from all angles. A head turner for sure, no shortage of compliments received. Super rare in my neck of the words. Neighbors are suddenly much nicer than before! No other car on the road comes close (except other non-SUV Porsches!)
  • Drives great: Cool confident driving. Love navigating windy roads. RAS makes the car very maneuverable, really glad to have it. Like the sport sound (I know people are mixed).
  • Good range: I get 280-290 miles on full charge. Much more than sufficient for my needs, especially given I live in the Bay Area where EV chargers are plentiful. Similar to others, have found the guessometer to be accurate
  • Fast charging: Usually charge at the office with a 6kW charger, but have used EA on multiple occasions. Saw max of 250-260kW when using a 350kW charger
  • Classy ambient lighting: Love the classy feel, and that the colors match what’s playing on the PCM
  • Driver assistance systems: ACC, LCA, and surround view are lifelines. I do agree that sometimes the acceleration can be sudden when using ACC, and I wish braking would start sooner when clearly another car is entering my lane (vs. more sudden braking after that car has fully entered my lane). But I have figured out what to expect when and therefore on balance, very happy with these systems

What annoys me
  • *Charging timer: I charge my car to 85% when at the office. Sometimes, the car continues charging beyond 85% even though the timer is set to 85%. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong, please let me know!!
  • *Comfort access: I haven’t been able to figure out how to open the trunk or the frunk with leg/hand movements
  • *Creaks: I have some creaks in the A pillars and likely even in B, which is annoying and frankly I find a bit unacceptable when paying six figures for the car
  • *Wireless phone charger: Seriously, WTF.

Nuisances that don’t annoy me
  • I have a start-up routine (turn on electric sport sound, regen, and internal circulation). If only the PCM could remember my preferences…
  • *Front cupholder ambient light sometimes doesn’t work. Why???
  • Ingress and egress is definitely a bit of challenge, but I tell myself that this is a sports car
  • Apple Play sometimes takes a few tries to connect

Concern
  • Just opened MyPorsche on the web (not the app) and saw the factory recall message “Check high-voltage battery and replace if necessary”. Scheduled service at the dealer. Let’s see.

* = Things that I will ask the service center to look into

I have a very low tariff at home between 00:00 and 07:00. After a few trials, I got the 85% charging to work doing the following :

Set up a general profile with a 25 % min charge
Set up a timer for the car to charge up to 85% and get car ready for 7.01 am

I tend to plug the car in as late as I can with usually 20% to 30% charge left in the car . If the charge is not less than 25% , I note charging is paused and it doesn’t start till around 11 pm and ends just before 7 am on 85%.

If charge is under 25%, charging starts immediately when the car is plugged in and pauses when the charge is 25% and resumes again around 11 pm and ends just before 7 am on 85%

Hope this helps

I can comment on a few:

Charging Timer: I never had an instance for a charge to go beyond the Timer setting of 85%. My setup is Profile is OFF (have no need for it) and Timer is set for 85% and 6am. I plug in around 9pm and then it is at 85% by 6am. I do not see any difference if you plug at work and set the Timer to a % and time but be sure Direct Charging is off, if it is checked, then it will go to 100%, and then turn Profile to OFF to eliminate it messing with your intent to get to 85% charge with a Timer.

Comfort Access - Trunk Foot Gesture: I use the foot gesture all the time and never had a problem. There may be a setting that needs to be on for it to work (I can go look). Also, the key has to be with you near the trunk for it to work.

Wireless Phone Charger: I am dumbfounded by this thing as it adds may be 10% on a 30 min drive.

Creaks: None yet, but I am only a few months in and 1,500 miles but expecting them, and listening to them, since everyone seems to report them.

The wireless phone charger on my new-to-me 2022 4CT works just as well as the wireless phone charger on my wife's 2023 BMW i4 M50.
Which works only slighter better than the wireless phone charger on our 2022 Audi A6 Allroad. Which was a chip delete. For which I received $250. Which was $50 more than the wireless phone charger I willingly spec'ed on the i4 build (as one of the few a la carte options). And about which I was amply warned on the equivalent i4 forum.

Wireless charger definitely not the best (but are any wireless vehicle chargers "good"?)

Thank you! I am reasonably sure that's what I did (minus the 25% min charge) but I will try again and see how it goes. Appreciate your response.

Thank you @SergeyIndy, really appreciate the response.

I will give the timer another go and see how it goes. I will make sure to turn off the Direct Charging option (perhaps that was the culprit last time round)

I tried foot gestures again but didn't work. If you wouldn't mind pointing me to any specific setting that I need to activate, I'd really appreciate it.

Yeah, wireless charger adds 10% on 30 min and gets the phone to like 100 Celsius (exaggerating)

Thanks @Jonathan S.! Wow, at least I feel less bad knowing this isn't a Taycan/Porsche issue. I guess wireless charging is a far greater engineering challenge than figuring out an 800V battery powered EV.

Doesn't sound like it. I never had wireless charging before so I guess I had unrealistic expectations. Now, gotta go buy a USB charging wire to keep in my car :p

Happy to help, I will run out to check it. This is a good source but using pre-color PCM, but should not be much different:

Thanks @SergeyIndy. I have the right settings so don't think that's the issue. Sometimes (1 in 100), the foot gesture does work. I just haven't been able to figure out how to consistently recreate that magic!

Swing your foot in/out under where the boot (trunk) opening switch is, and stand back half a step.

It can be a little slow to respond IME, but reckon mine responds properly 99 times out 100 :)

(The frunk one is largely pointless as all it does is pop the catch. You still need to release it fully and open the lid manually).
