Unless you resell taycans for a living, there is no reason bad publicity about the car would affect you negatively.

Maybe porsche will finally actually do something if they are all over the "tabloids"

We’re in a lot of trouble if we need to run to the tabloids to get visibility or traction with Porsche Cars GB on routine repairs.

In the meantime there is a huge disinformation campaign that’s been waged for years with the popular press with regards to EVs. The amount of negative press is just ridiculous - but it gets them ? eyeballs.

….maybe I’m just too cynical, but I can’t see this being good for Taycan owners. Just see this as feeding metaphoric fuel to the fire about your car actually catching fire!!

Be careful about getting into bed with the devil.
Sadly Porsche aren't doing the right thing by their customers.

Not a single customer should be receiving a letter saying "we advise you not to charge beyond 80%", let alone "we advise not to charge or park next to or under a building". These are massive product failures.

Owners should be being given better assurance than this. If there's a problem/risk with a car, then repair it immediately, offer a loaner until you have a repair or offer the customer a buy back of the product they can no longer effectively use.

Who is the devil in this scenario, the media or Porsche?

I agree there are those in the media that are prepared to blow up (sic) the smallest of stories. But in this case it's hardly fair to blame them (even if they do have ulterior motives). Porsche should have produced a product that did not need them to advise not to park it at home FFS. They are supposed to do millions of development miles. How come this issue has only just surfaced?

Same with heaters and brakes tbh.

I absolutely love the car. I'm still of the view that it's the best EV out there. But Porsche are very far from covering themselves in glory here, and they are responsible for diminishing their own reputation right now. They have to get a grip of it quickly otherwise they'll be in trouble IMO.

My experience with my local centre has been nothing short of horrific. If there was another anywhere near me I wouldn’t go back.
I think he was meaning Porsche UK or even the mothership.

Perhaps note that the forums and press are getting particularly interested in these stories but you'd rather give them the opportunity to sort first :)

Good luck folks. The journo’s email details are in the post above, should you feel the need to reach out to them.

I suggest however that you speak with your local Porsche Centre or Porsche Cars GB to get the certainty you require on this issue before you do so.

Bye

When I have more time I’ll likely share my experience of my local Porsche centre with work on my Macan, but basically lied to about when the car would be ready, told it was on the ramps when it hadn’t even been started, repeated delays, problems with parts, over-quoted which had to be corrected, calls being ignored, no loan car available etc. and when the service manager asked for my feedback after the event I didn’t even get a response, despite them telling me they would call to discuss.

I fed all this back to Porsche UK in great detail and was fobbed off with a “sorry for the inconvenience but here’s £250 to spend online or in store”. Guess where you can shove that!…They couldn’t be less interested. I would suspect that Porsche operate in accordance with an ISO 9001 certification, and for me this was a significant non conformance in the service provided and a customer compliant that the clearly weren’t interested in investigating.

Back to the ARB5, and I’ve been pushed back to the 17th Feb, even though the car has been booked in for two months. This is due to the time it takes to drop out the battery and replace cells etc. so we know it wouldn’t be completed in the time we gave you bla bla bla. Wait a minute, the recall letter mentions nothing about the battery being dropped out, it’s supposed to be in for 5 days for ‘diagnostics’, so very evident from the call today that they know it’s faulty. I’m not even convinced that they’ll honour the 17th Feb.

I drive past the centre every day on my commute to work, and I’ve seen a row of Taycans with private plates lined up outside, sat there for weeks, most likely waiting on the same fault repair.

I concur that I think the car is amazing, but I’m quickly becoming disgruntled with Porsche in general.

Which UK branch is this?

I have a ARB5 scheduled for 13th. I’ve been told it’ll take week….

This is a perfect storm for Porsche:

1: the complexity of the issue from diagnosis to repair
2: the lack of knowledge and HV electric qualified skill across the service network
3: the scale, Porsche sold more Taycan than it expected c. 151k cars

They will want to fix all cars but simply cannot get it done quickly enough.

As a well established leading ICE brand for quality and service, in hindsight, they should have restricted sales until they knew the tech was reliable and their service network was ready to support the volume of cars sold. The Taycan has however helped Porsche grow sales by over euro 10 billion (+40%) since launch in 2020.

My letter said new software for monitoring the battery would become available during the first quarter of 2025 and would be downloaded OTA to my car so not to put it in privacy mode and make sure it was connected to the internet.

Unfortunately I have had a 12V battery fault but the car is now in for its first service and to do a prior investigation of the HV battery. The software isn't available yet.

My car was one of those held in storage for months due to lack of 12V batteries back in 2022, I hope the batch of 12V batteries eventually fitted were not sub-standard in any way.

I had a 12-volt wobble over the Christmas period. I hadn't driven the car in a while (maybe a month) and when I went to charge it for a holiday trip across the country – it was tricky to get the doors to open.

When I did get inside – it immediately said that 12-volt battery was very low and to plug in the car to charge. Which I was planning on doing so anyways. Charged car to 100% (from maybe 40%).

Went back to car and 12-volt low warning remained. PCM screens would only stay on for 30 secs before switching off. There were lots of behaviours indicating that the 12 volt battery remained low.

But the car did start and moved off. I thought – maybe a few 100 km driving will help charge it up. We stopped after 250km-ish for a break. PCM immediately showed 12-volt warning and shut off.

Hmmmmm.......

I plugged into a nearby 200 kW charger for a top up – just to see if DC charging would help. No difference.

I was a fair bit worried that we might get stranded due to this – though while driving there seemed to be plenty of 12 volt power available – likely directly from the DC/DC converter rather than via the battery itself.

I've had a FitCamX dashcam installed for ~ 2 years – and its never given any issues. I didn't really think it was at fault – certainly it was unlikely to be preventing the 12-volt battery from being recharged.

However, my Porsche Centre is super fussy about unauthorised accessories being hard-wired in. I've been down this road before. They will deny warranty cover and the policy document (annoyingly) supports their position.

I couldn't take the risk that we'd get stranded on side of motorway – I'd need to call for Porsche rescue and car would get dragged off to Porsche Centre where the dashcam would be blamed and cover denied.

So I decided – while on the road – to take the damn thing out. It took about an hour because I didn't have all my tools with me – but in the end – did successfully remove it and restore the factory trim.

Here is the surprising thing: I never saw the 12-volt error again! Car has been rock solid since. Never got to the bottom of it.

Considering the official Porsche Dashcam now - with all its failings – as it keeps me in warranty – and I intend to move to extended warranty in the long term.

Anyways – thats my random 12-volt story of the month!

I did buy a Fitcam X myself but have never fitted it, I thought I would wait until after the first service...

Its so integrated looking – they might miss it. But defo not if you (or I) are having 12-volt problems. It would be way too easy to blame it.

It gave me years of good service – I wouldn't take my experience as a reason to not consider installing it. But I just can't live with the warranty implications here in Ireland (where we have only one Porsche Centre in the entire republic; so I have to live within the "rules").

I was concerned and didn't fit it for the same reason.
I have had the odd message saying peripherals taking too much power and switched off, but the only "peripheral" I have in the car is a USB stick of music files.

If your car is still under warranty, look on the bright side - even if those were substandard, you get a new one for free. Unless of course the current ones are even more substandard.
