When using the Auto High Beam setting, the car seems to not turn the high beams on at appropriate times (when completely dark and no other cars around). Has anyone else experienced this same problem? Does anyone have any advice on what can be done to make the high beams more prominent?

You have to be going over a certain speed for them to activate (37mph?).

I don't have any advise, but much the same on all the other cars I've had with auto high beam. They spend most of the time dipped when you want them on. I guess they're all set to cautious.

Agree with minimum speed requirement comment above by @Hirschaj. When driving with the lights on, do you see a headlight icon with a "A" next to it on the dashboard? If not, check your settings on the PCM to confirm "Auto Dimming"

Yes, thank you. Did not realize there was a speed requirement.

Thanks for this! Did not realize there was a speed requirement. 37mph seems like an odd number, but ??‍♂. Guess you have to manually turn on the high beams when driving 0-37mph

I was heading down a dark winding road recently, driving close behind another car. The high beams went on repeatedly and were lighting up his whole cabin. Because the road was winding, I was afraid to see how to turn them off as I was cruising. All the while I'm thinking the guy in front of me must have been thinking I was a colossal jerk.

That surprises me because driving in the countryside in New Hampshire, I am always amazed how well the Taycan auto-high beams work. It dims when I approach red taillights in the distance, but not for stationary red road reflectors in the distance. It dims fast for oncoming cars. It doesn't get fooled by highway signs. It does take it a moment to go back to high beam after the coast is clear. You want to know what bad auto-high beams are like, try Tesla's.

Auto dimming comes with which package? It's not standard I believe.

Porsche’s implementation of this feature is terrible in an otherwise terrific car. My Lexus, BMW and Corvette all have this feature and it works seamlessly. I’m sure all of you have other cars with the same success.
Taycan is hit or miss and when it doesn’t work I have to press the bright light switch twice or turn off the auto dimming.
very annoying.
