Battery draining while parked...is this normal?

Hi all: New '22 CT4S owner here. One thing that I've noticed is that the battery will drain while sitting. Overnight it can drop by anywhere from 5-10%. The other day, sitting for 2 hours, I lost 10 miles - got to a destination with 51 miles of range remaining, about 3 hours later I left for home and it reported 41 miles remaining.

Is this normal? Any thoughts on what I might be missing or doing wrong?

I haven't been consistently turning off the car via the power button. I've assumed that the car turns off when I lock it. Should I be using the power button more consistently?

I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences here. Thanks!

Not normal. Car turns off when you lock it. Even if the car uses any energy while not used it would not indicate SoC drop until you drive it for a few miles and the kind of drop you are showing is a sign of something not working properly. The only time I saw SoC difference when the car was standing was when I was doing a rebalance and had it sitting at 2% overnight, with energy use explained as it was doing rebalancing behind the scenes. However, when I have it at normal SoC levels of say between 20%-85%, no SoC drop even it is standing for 10 days.

Besides the advice of taking it to the dealer asap to diagnose the issue, I would use an OBD reader and CarScanner app to get a reading on your cell voltages and cell charge levels, that would show if you have any bad cells. Bad cells are not in line with other cells in voltage and charge level.

When you say your battery has lost5-10% in one night, are you looking at the SoC or range in miles? You talk about miles later on and that can be normsl if the temperature drops in the evening.

I’ve seen it drop by a couple of miles when the temperature changes. I typically garage my car so the effect is minimal. But if the battery temp goes from 80+ F (after DC charging ) to 40 F I think a small reduction in miles is normal. I believe the estimate is based on driving behavior and voltage. So if you drive around in sport plus after babying it for a few sessions I can see the estimate dropping off of that alone. And anything the impacts voltage (like temperatures) could compound that effect.

also… use the cars battery display. I find the app can jump around by a mile or so sometimes for seemingly no reason. And it won’t exactly match the cars battery display.

Changes in SoC when parked is a different matter than changes in guessometer range estimates while parked. A reduction in guessomter range does not mean battery has drained.

Thinking about more. The only time I’ve seen the SoC change was during a battery rebalance. I charged to 100% at the end of the procedure only to see the battery drop to 98% an hour or so after the procedure. I then charged it back to 100% and it fell back to 98% I don’t have all the screen shots handy but the voltage actually dropped per car scanner after the 100% charges. I assumed this was some kind of built in failsafe. No idea really, but it’s the only time I’ve seen the SoC drop without driving. The change in voltage seemed to indicate it discharged itself somehow.

By and large you should not be losing 5-10% battery charge over night. Are there any after-market additions such as a permanently wired dashcam that is always on? If not then it needs a trip do a dealer to sort it.

In SoC overnight, it is a percentage drop. As in, I park at home with 80% charge, but when I leave for work in the morning it's at 71-72%.
The mileage example was one that just stuck in my mind. I'd planned to stop at a DC fast charger before teaching class the other night, but there was a line so I skipped it. With 50 miles of range (and about 16 miles home) I was fine. But when I got in the car after class, it reported on 40 miles of range. And with running the heater, it was a little tighter than I was comfortable with to get home, so stopped for a quick charge.

I recently had it in for a list of recalls (the car had been sitting at a non-Porsche dealership for a while, so most of the recalls hadn't been done). One of the items they were supposed to have worked on was checking the battery health (WRS1 ?), so I'm assuming that came out OK.

That drop in SoC is absolutely not normal. Have you seen it being repeated?

The drop in range is a bit more understandable but sounds a lot if the temperature did not drop a lot. Did you use the navigator to and from lecture? Or was it just showing range in the GOM?

^ This is not normal to see SoC shown in the car drop at this rate 80% -> 71% overnight. You have a problem developing and it could be many things, but most common is a dead module, at which time even if one fails, you get Red Circle of Death and you cannot move the car on its own.

5-10% is not normal.
I normally see 0-1% drop overnight. I lost 4% when I left the car unplugged for a week during a vacation.

If it's genuinely a drop in state of charge, then not normal.

Not normal. Since the car is new to you, have you checked:

• no timers are active such as pre heat or cool
• Charging planner is not active
• Departure time is not set

Preheating the car overnight could have a big drop in soc if you are in a cold environment and you leave your car outside.
Mine is in a heated garage at home and I didn’t realize that I left the pre heating for 20 degrees at 8 am when I was in the mountains with the car left outside in the snow. The next morning I was surprised that I lost 10% but then realized that I didn’t have to remove any ice on the windows and my seat was nice and toasty

My SoC doesn’t drop at all. Even after 10 days of zero use, SoC remained the same.
