It's just very different cars. I also had a Cayenne E-Hybrid as a loaner. It feels like a boat compared to the Taycan. But I can imagine it being a very comfortable daily driver - I just prefer the sporty feel of the Taycan myself.

The Cross Turismo 4 and the base Cayenne are virtually identical in wheelbase, length and width as well as weight. The only difference is height and cg and that's where the driving dynamics improve for the Taycan.
Having had both I can tell you the Cayenne is much better for a long trips comfort of the seats, visibility and 600 mile range plus much fuller audio response of speakers.

Getting back in a Cayenne after driving the Taycan seems like going back in time 10+ years. Noise
and transmission!

My setiments are very simlar to OP's. I had a Cayenne E-Hybrid with air suspension for 7 weeks while my charger was replaced, and it was an awful car, in my opinion. It was clumsy and noisy, and the brakes were not too effective. When I got the Taycan back, it felt like a car made by Rolls-Royce. However, the build quality is similar when I compare the Taycan to my 2024 Full Size Range Rover. The EV to ICE engine transition is dangerously slow. My wife drives a 2023 X6, and I always wondered why anyone would spend $126k on a hybrid Cayenne over the $86 X6 40I for an X5 40I.

I drove a recent Cayenne for a week. The closest thing to an electric version to me is the Q8 etron - about the same size, similar controls, more responsive acceleration (you can press the accelerator and the car just goes, vs. generates a bunch of noise before it starts moving).

I came from a Cayenne S to my Taycan and absolutely loved the Cayenne. Super comfortable and capable car that was perfect for family duty and soaking up highway miles on my daily commute. Performance was fantastic as well for a vehicle of that size.

I also swapped from a cayenne e-hybrid to my Taycan turbo. Loved the cayenne as a load carrier and long distance family hauler with roof box and bikes on the back when necessary. That duty is now taken up by an x5 50e which has a smaller boot but an excellent range and is super comfortable across Europe.

The Taycan is also great for shorter family trips when we aren’t taking bikes and things.

Yeah, I would say not to judge any one model based on the Hybrid version. I had a e-Hybrid Panamera and didn't like it. Drove a Panamera GTS and felt much different.

First time poster here. I have a 21 taycan CT 4S. Bought it PO 2 years ago. Love the car. My first Porsche. Had an Audi rs7 prior. Way different drive.

I’ve had no significant issues. Had front camera replaced because of malfunction. Had front battery fans replaced under warranty recently. Will occasionally have battery port errors that self resolve with time.

Worried about longevity. Getting offers for about 56k if I trade it in. Have 40k miles on it now. Was looking at 2023 cayenne coupe GTS for same practicality as my cross tourismo. Did not see any comparisons about cayenne gts vdrive but suspect it will be very different.

Thoughts?

I have both Taycan and Cayenne from the same gen as the 2023 Cayenne you are considering. They are completely different vehicles for different purposes. However, I am very surprised with solid reliability. I am at 6 years now and almost $60k miles and driven it all over and absolutely solid almost hard to believe.

It is very different. Any kind of jacked up "suv" type vehicle has horrible suspension compared to engineering a normal car of the same type.

This is because inevitably you have to have it stiffer to counteract the side to side movement that comes with the higher center of gravity.
So all of these "suv" type vehicles ride much more poorly compared to a normal car, simply due to the laws of physics. The suspension is stiffer yet they all have much more body roll. The EV's might significantly improve on that, since at least the CoG is quite low even with the stupid body shape.

This is why if you want the maximum comfort and performance you always choose a sedan/estate over a SUV. In fact I never understood why people drive these "suv type" things. They can't offroad anyway due to having massive standard tyres, they are significantly less comfortable, and have less space than an estate car (okay, maybe not the Taycan, but the Taycan is a dedicated sports sedan, not a standard estate car with souped up bits in it like the RS6 or M5).
And this comes from someone who has driven well over 3000 different cars...

But obviously I am missing something, since they sell like hotcakes.

Unless you need a gas powered car, then try an Ioniq 5 AWD with the premium seats or the Ioniq 5 N. I know it's not a Porsche, but IMO it's nicer than a gas powered Cayenne and the "zero gravity seats" on the AWD are one of the most comfortable I've ever sat in. The ZF dampers that are mechanically adaptive are also a work of art. I've had one for half a year back in 2021.

Yes, but to get to the "no body roll" part the suspension is stiffer than if you'd do the same car with a normal height. It's just physics due to higher center of gravity. So the ride is not as good.

The Cayenne GTS skidpad result is 1.01g, while the Taycan is 1.02g in the Cross Turismo, but 1.08g for Turbo GT, and 1.11g for Turbo GT Weissach, as those were tested with AR.

So I guess depends which models you are comparing.

I'm having the 2023 Cayenne S with RWS/PDDS for a few months and the ride quality is worst than my Taycan. I wonder if its the same air suspension tunned differently or Taycan has a better suspension because it rides way smoother.
