My brakes have been shit since I got the car but I assumed that was just the way the car operated. It was only through these forums I came to know there is a software update for the brakes which should address the exact issue I’m facing. I’ve had the car in for service 6 times since I got it Dec 22 (it’s a 2023). Can’t get the brake recall done because of lack of parts.
I will be returning and demanding the brake software update.
The brake issues I’m facing
- spongy pedal feel when switching from regen to mechanical
- inconsistent response with mechanical brakes
- sometimes mechanical brakes don’t seem to respond and require what I consider excessive pedal travel before the car will stop

I’ve also noticed a sensation that the car is lurching forward while slowing down from highway speeds which I assumed was the car shifting from 2 to 1 and not having regen during the second that the transmission is shifting. I hate this feeling because it feels like you have no brakes for a second. Now I’m wondering if this is an issue with the brakes. Do others experience this?
Software and brake hoses will be done at the same time - all part of the recall. It will be night and day once done. Your symptoms are precisely the issues addressed.

This kind of sounds like you hit slippery surface and your ABS turned on. When there’s no traction brake pedal can travel excessively and then the jittering you describe is the ABS doing its job. The fact that the car then stopped on dry pavement indicates the brakes were working.
What’s your tire tread like?
It's why I said dry tarmac.

And the red PCM warning - Park safely wouldn't be triggered with Abs just doing it's thing.

Tyres new.... Warm summer day. Nothing slippery.

It was some kind of fault.

it’s hard to believe this issue hasn’t resulted in all cars being taken off the road until updated frankly

it DOES result in total brake failure from first hand experience of a car that triggered the recall following a hose failure and me contacting the DVSA about it when Porsche told me i was the only owner to ever experience such a problem ( a clear lie now !)

porsche are playing. fast and loose with lives here imo

( my car is sold so i have no skin in the game any longer )

i would not drive a Taycan that hadn’t been updated / had new hoses fitted

Just jumping on this thread as mine had it's brake hoses replaced yesterday as part of the recall and a couple of software updates. I mentioned to the dealer that the brakes were spongy and they said this would sort it out. Like hell. They are perhaps even worse. Driving at low speed (traffic) it seems that the first press of the pedal is quite good but the second requires a lot more pressure. The checklist when I picked up the car said the fluid levels were fine. It's only done 5,700 miles so I'm wondering what the issue here is. I've not noticed any leaks and no dashboard warning lights. Is this normal?

It can be if your friction brakes are not sufficiently bedded or the discs are rusty/coated. But/ Normal? No

Just found out my dealer has the brake lines in stock after calling them Saturday. Scheduled for the recall work on Monday morning. I had asked them to reach out to me when they got the parts in stock and of course they didn’t.

I told my wife to stop driving it after reading your posts until the recall is done.

I know this is an old thread but as soon as I purchased my Taycan I complained about the brakes to the point where Porsche replaced the entire brake pads and rotors at no cost to me. I’m still waiTong on the brake hose recall. I’ll be the last as my car is a 2020.

Good on you Clive for letting everyone know and I saw some comments with people saying oh this is impossible in a 2 year old car etc?! When people globally have issues with their Taycan brakes

my22 taycan turbo - 66k miles

My wife was driving back from school yesterday with our 2 children and experienced complete brake failure - pedal to the floor / zero ability to stop !

lucky no accident (miraculously!)

Car recovered to Sutton OPC where i was initially told would be end of June before they could even look at the issue ! They really don’t seem to be taking this very seriously at all

Escalated to Porsche GB today as i’m seriously concerned this could kill someone

anyone experienced this or heard of anyone having similar issues ? I find it hard to believe it’s even possible for a complete failure like this to occur

car opc serviced and owned from new

do you think i should make VOSO aware of this ? if it’s anything fundamental re design of components that could happen again to another owner then surely all Taycans should be taken off road until a solution is found
Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this? I'm having the same issue. first time I actually hit the back of another dar and the 2nd time I went into a round about whilst trying to stop. Porsche took my car for nearly a month and couldn't find a fault. I don't know what I can do but don't really drive the CAR.

yes - car was sold and a global recently on brake hoses was triggered

if your car didn’t have the update you should get in touch with your dealer
