I have a cracked roof from above the rear vision mirror and consistent width from the edge of the glass all the way around the outside of the glass across the rear window and stops at passenger side pillar.Porsche says its a stone chip.No stone chip to be found. There is some minor torsion glass splinters along the long crack on the drivers but certainly not a stone chip.
Porsche wont warrant the item and it is very expensive to replace whether on insurance or not and no guarantee it wont happen again to the next roof when replaced. Similar experience??
Any known similar issues?

Yep. Mine was indeed a rock chip. 16K repair, and both windshield and backglass were broken/replaced as part of it. I went through insurance which didn't cover all of it.

You know what doesn't crack? Steel.

I don't know why the roof is offered in glass? It's just too fragile and super expensive to replace.
I blame Tesla for starting the glass roof trend, and then other EVs had to emulate Tesla I guess.

I skipped the glass roof and have been very happy. The glass is a back-seat nicety, nothing more.

As I've said before if this one cracks and I'm 3/3, the car will become an open roof experience.

And then we'll anoint you as the Crack King.

What year is your Taycan and how long did you have it before it cracked?

It’s the one thing I don’t like about my 2021 CPO because I would have never ordered it new without the steel roof.
I plan to keep my Taycan indefinitely so if it cracks 10-15 years from now and insurance won’t cover it then I’ll likely just get the glass wrapped in black vinyl as long as the crack doesn’t leak.
If I have to replace the vinyl every 3-5 years to keep it looking perfect then I will do that instead of waste money on replacing the glass roof which evidently even Porsche has mixed success replacing the glass outside of the factory.

If you can detect the rock chip immediately, you could probably have it glued to prevent the crack from growing. I've had my windshield glued twice already from rock chips. Not perfect, but the spot remaining is tiny. I didn't want to replace the windshield just to take another rock chip next week.

That's obviously a manufacturer's fault.
Bodies of cars always move under load, the glue is there to prevent the glass to crack.
This case clearly looks like glass with internal stress and cracked under only a slight amount of load.
It's clear this isn't a stone chip or anything like that, just cuz it goes all the way around.
This is definitely a manufacturer's fault.
Just insist more to replace it cuz that's the way dealers work: first resist and after more pressure they give in.
Good luck!

The situation is switched. Your dealer has to prove to you that it is not a warranty repair. Play it harder. This is definitely a warranty repair. Let them get their statement in writing with picture proof.

I've been wanting a solid roof, carbon fiber as a replacement. I'm going to have to do this when it cracks again. I'm on roof number 4, but it's a known issue on ct.
