I am waiting to get a few % of SoC into the car on AC – before going to one more nearby 400V charger to check if charging on AC has fixed anything
After an hour or so on AC at home – tried a 400V 150 kW and a 50 kW near me and both instantly failed. So consistently failing across five chargers tonight.

I am now going to leave car sit (not AC charging) overnight and try again in the morning. I continue to hope it will fail tomorrow and then we'll have a much easier time figuring out parts to replace.

This morning the DC charging failed after the car sitting idle (and unplugged) overnight. This is good as its now consistently failing.

I'd guess the DC Booster has been failing for a while and has now completely failed.

Here is a summary of my charging attempts over the past 24 hours:

Attempt #Date/TimeNetworkCharger TypeOutcomeComments/Notes
1Fri 19 Jan – MorningIONITY350 kW 800VSuccessWith PIWIS tester plugged in.
2Fri 19 Jan – MorningIONITY350 kW 800VSuccessWith PIWIS tester plugged in.
3Fri 19 Jan – EveningIONITY350 kW 800VFailureFailed after 30 seconds
4Fri 19 Jan – EveningIONITY350 kW 800VFailureFailed immediately (after 5 mins of car locked)
5Fri 19 Jan – EveningIONITY350 kW 800VFailureFailed immediately (after an hour of car locked)
6Fri 19 Jan – EveningAppleGreen180 kW 800VFailureFailed immediately (after 20 mins of driving)
7Fri 19 Jan – EveningHome7 kW ACSuccessCharged for one hour to put some charge into battery to reach more DC chargers for testing.
8Fri 19 Jan – EveningESB150 kW 400VFailureFailed immediately
9Fri 19 Jan – EveningESB50 kW 400VFailureFailed immediately
10Fri 19 Jan – EveningHome7 kW ACSuccessCharged for two hours. Then left unplugged overnight.
11Sat 20 Jan – MorningESB150 kW 400VFailureFailed immediately after sitting overnight.

I'm going to pop up to my Porsche Centre in about an hour and confirm it is failing immediately on their DC chargers there – and then I have – what we call in the software industry a REPL: Read, Execute, Print and Loop. Basically an easily reproducible bug/failure.

Three weeks to Norway trip ... eeek!

Performing test #11 this morning:

It is well documenation on this issue. I hope if the problem is from your 22kw on board charger and they can sort it out before your long trip! Good luck!

Hope fixed soon :(
Me neither. The only thing I know is that when the RWD launched – it did so with the software that took out the "AWD display" from the left tube on the dashboard. And did the same when they rolled out that software ("the big update") to all Taycan's.

I still miss it.
It was one of the things I found most interesting on my demo Taycan, gone by the time mine was delivered.
The biggest danger would be me spending too much time looking at it when trying things out and crashing, so probably best it isn't there!

Just back from Porsche Centre and it was consistently broken there too – right where I need it to be.

This should make diagnosis much more straight forward. Now its a race against time to get replacement parts for our Feb 9 deadline to set off for Norway.

Left my car there and am now rocking a Taycan Cross Turismo – my first time driving that body shape. And it has the compass option – perfect for our roadtrips – I do wish this was offered on the regular Taycan body shape.

Still hope you will get your car sorted before your planned trip! Good that it finally failed at the Porsche Centre so they can have the fault codes.

Hey the parking in your picture above, I thought that was the way it was reserved for BMW drivers??? ??

I know right!

Our other car – Fiat 500 EV – is currently under repair after a crash and I'm just making sure that idle spot doesn't turn into a "community" space due to being unused!

Also, parking a Taycan is bliss compared to when it is there and having to avoid that pillar with our charger on it when squeezing in.

As suspected but now finally confirmed it is a failure of the "high-voltage booster" and its inability for its internals to switch into DC fast charge mode – keeping the CP line at 9V.

Part ordered from Germany and it is now a race-against-time for it to arrive and get fitted ahead of road-trip. It is due to arrive into Ireland four days before we head off!

Parts in general are arriving on time for the past few months.

Credit to Porsche Centre Dublin so far on this – they have put in a ton of effort (no doubt helped by my knowledgable reporting) into what was until recently a tricky issue to trigger.

Good to hear that they have diagnosed and found the culprit.
Fingers and toes crossed that you will get your car in time!

Any change they want to take the HV booster out of your loaner and put it in your car? It would save a ton of mileage on an almost new loaner if you end up taking it on a road-trip. It might sounds crazy, but I have seen it done with other brands/other parts.

Yes, that offer/suggestion was made by my Porsche Centre – so it is definitely our fallback option – and much preferred over taking a loaner on the trip. We've configured our own car just the way we like it!

Even the simple challenge of swapping around winter tyre sets to loaner would be a pain.

Sounds like a win-win solution in case the new part does not arrive on time, or is DOA,(which happens, happened to me once, different part and another brand) - you get to road-trip in the car with options you speced, dealer does not end up with a loaner with a ton of mileage and road-trip usage on their hands. Taycans windshields and headlights do not stay pristine after a long road trip. Mine was "baptized" with a 3,500 mile trip home from the dealer, so I never worried about it much, as after that trip the headlights and windshield definitely don't look sparkling brand new.

Yeah as said; good they found the fault. Well done on helping with the diagnostics. I’m sure that sped matters up.

Fingers crossed for you they can sort it in time ?

Going from not being able to re-create the issue on Friday morning when we had the Porsche Diagnostic Computer plugged in after travelling 40km to IONITY to solidly broken by that evening was a rollercoaster!
