Hi all,

For some context, I am upgrading from a Toyota Prius lol. So any Porsche will be a huge upgrade for me. With that in mind, I want a "bare bones" Porsche Taycan with only the most essential items.

Me: I will not take long trips in the car, and again I'm coming from a Prius, so the cornering/suspension of the base Taycan will probably be plenty for me. But if you think air suspension is a "must", I'm open to hearing why.

http://www.porschecode.com/PPEF8D60

What should I add? What should I remove? Thank you in advance!

Here are my options below:

Rear 2+1 Seats
Power Folding Exterior Mirrors
Model Designation on Rear in Satin Black
Air Suspension incl. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Fixed Panoramic Roof in Glass
Surround View
Lane Change Assist (LCA)
Ambient Lighting
Porsche Crest on Headrests (Front)
On-Board 150 kW/400V DC Charger (with reports of Elon opening up superchargers I figure its cheap future proof insurance)
Get a 4 or 4S the RWD handles very badly in comparison.

It's not as fun as building your own, but what about Certified Pre-Owned? Porsche Finder shows a few RWD models under $100K and even some decently-optioned 2020 4S models for not much more than a new bare bones RWD.

Great point! Market is beginning to flood with them.

Having now owned a MY23 for one month my biggest regret is not getting a full leather interior package…

I wrongly assumed that the leather would mostly be noticeable in the seats (I have the 14 way and they look great) but no…

Where I notice the lack of leather most is the large dashboard that is a huge piece of fake leather/plastic and the pieces on the door. The standard interior is just fine but for a six figure car full leather I think would have made the interior much more luxurious…

What makes you write that?
Most road testers liked it, some said it was a sweet spot for handling, if not outright acceleration, which wouldn't surprise me since it is lighter.
Traction is rarely a limitation on tarmac so the off road benefits of 4WD are usually offset by the weight downside for road cars.

RWD handles great. Of the things I wished I could change on my base, handling was not one of them.

Frozenberry & cherry are weird colors. Most of the "red" cars in this study would be something like Carmine Red. I bet Mamba Green ends up being the best resale value Taycan color.
I was really disappointed with the strange color pallette offered on the Taycan. I just want Guards Red, damnit!

So if the OP adds all the options "suggested" by this thread, we're up to about $115K? What was the thread title? Oh yes, "Feedback Please - "Bare Essentials" Porsche Taycan".

My original intent was to buy an RWD when it was first announced. I was hopeful that the reviewers would find it as desirable as the base 911 for all the same reasons of purity and enjoyment. They overwhelmingly did.

I've spent some time driving a steel spring, white, basically outfitted, under $100K RWD (thanks for the EV loaner Porsche of Walnut Creek!). The car is quick, the steering wonderful, the ride quality excellent. A very desirable package missing only the small battery which, IMO would improve everything about the car except the range.

OP should stick to his original plan.

I am unusual in not liking red cars much, I have never owned one, but rather liking the unusual Frozen Berry and Cherry quite a bit, my short list was these two and Mamba though Mamba never really was in doubt in reality. Green is my colour!

Now that my order is frozen as of 2 days ago, and I can only reflect on the process of choosing everything over the past 2-3 months, I can say that while a handful of things I did consider for resale/future value, like large battery... the bulk of it was just for me. I said to myself each time, "Am I buying this car for myself, or for some stranger 5+ years in the future?" Like, I love Frozen Berry... am I not going to choose it because some dude will kick the tires in 8 years and say "No way?" That's ridiculous to me. Unless I'm in the business of selling cars, the only car I'm putting on my lot is the one that I want to drive!

Porsche will be happy to do that for you; you just have to pay the outrageous PTS upcharge.
