Hi

Anyone here or their passenger feel nauseous from being in the car? And I don't mean when you floor and and drive it like a sports car. Just driving it normally or being driven in it normally.

A friend is looking at buying a Taycan and test driven it 2 times for a weekend and after getting out is feeling sick later in the day - for the rest of the day and into the next day

Car his test driving has the pana roof. Question is, does this go away, and if so was it weeks or months?

His never been in an EV before

The first time he thought maybe he was sick, but the second time which was over a week later the exact same thing happened.

Its a show stopper for him at the moment to pull the trigger on buying a Taycan, and i can understand why. I havent had the issue when i test drove the Taycan a few times and other EVs, although it wasnt such long test drives. My car is on its way from the factory to the port, so hopefully i will enjoy my new wheels in late October

Never heard it mentioned before. Not even once.

It sounds more like motion sickness - which could be present in any car.
At least in the Taycan you can change suspension settings.

It sure as hell ain't the usual suspect - exhaust fumes.

I get motion sickness pretty easily. My test drive of the Taycan was at a Porsche event at a track.

I got super dizzy the first time I drove it. I am not sure why but I get a feeling that for someone that has propensity to motion sickness, the lack of sound associated with accelerating and slowing down plays a part.

we drove 911s and others as well, didn’tget motion sickness until I got in the Taycan as a driver and then passenger.

I am over a year into ownership now. Motion sickness went away very quickly.

Wife gets sick in the car if the suspension is not in sport mode. So that's where we keep it. Normal is a bit soft and floaty.

My mother is very susceptible to motion sickness, but she discovered that it is much worse when she is facing backwards from the direction of travel. When she told the doctor this, she was informed that there is a theory that it is the mismatch between senses that is perceived as nauseating.

Your experience seems consistent with this theory. The doctor told her to focus on looking at passing scenery, even though it seems counterintuitive, as the typical instinct is to try to minimize perception of motion. But when you look at a stationary (relatively) object, now your eyes are fighting the other senses that are trying to figure out whether we are moving or not.

@Aussie_Taycan:
This might be an instance where the "'sport sound" option could be of tremendous benefit.

Your friend could request a test drive specifically in a vehicle with that feature, and ask the SA to show them how to control the volume. Perhaps there would be a setting that mitigates the discomfort.

I’m a bit surprised that the problem happens “after” he gets out the and “later in the day - for the rest of the day and into the next day”. This is very atypical of motion sickness, which develops in real-time while motion is occurring.

There has to be something else going on. You might ask him if he has anxiety about getting into the EV space. There is the whole question of charging of course, both at home and on the road. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was troubling to him. Also, let’s remember that this isn’t a cheap car, and the cost along with the newness of EVs to your friend might be creating a lot of anxiety.

Just guessing of course, but maybe he should wait to pull the trigger until after your car has arrived and he’s had a chance to ride with you and see how EV’s work.

Sounds like he may be allergic to one of the cleaning products used to freshen up the demo car between clients. I have never experienced anybody getting motion sickness some time after they get out of the car.

This was the Navy surgeon's advice about sea sickness when I had to go on sea trials on a Frigate. It is built for speed not comfort and the motion is in meters not millimeters!

What I did my PEC day the instructor said anecdotally that he knows a number of people who've felt travel sick in the Tacan but don't in other cars - one guy said it was only with the electronic sport sound on, another few said it might be the lack of noise and engine vibration.

My mum gets travel sick so I stick suspension in sport mode when she's in the car and so far she's been fine. I find it can be a bit wallowy on some roads in normal mode

What were his symptoms (more specifically than just nausea)?
Why mention the pano roof?
I've not had anyone experience nausea in mine- not even the dog who usually settles lying across the rear seats. I can provoke an unpleasant sensation (only in myself) during flat-out acceleration from a standing start if there are things nearby in my peripheral vision, lessened if I focus well ahead (but on tracks or skid pan I've never felt any discomfort).
