With the supply chain shortages many tires are in short supply. My wife blew a tire recently on her Model S and had to wait a week for a new one. Lucky I had an extra tire in the garage - not new but fine to drive on for a week (~5/32 tread IIRC). Once my Taycan arrives, I'm thinking about just ordering an extra tire to keep on hand, avoid "grounding" the car for days in case it needs tire replacement.

I had a flat as you’ve read before, and didn’t realize how limited in numbers out Taycan tires were. My dealer said I was luck that they had one in the dealership.

New tires are in short supply, but if you go on eBay there are tons of OE tires available that were either puncture repaired or taken off just because they were on the same axle as another tire replacement. Anyone that has tire insurance, this is where your tires go for a second life.

I actually bought a replacement set of tires at 95-100% tread life for less than half price of new and date codes less than a year old! Two had patches, no big deal I’ve plugged dozens of tires.

Isn’t the advice to avoid using the goo kit if it can be avoided? Doesn’t it wreck the valves/TPMS and inner rim?
No, it does no damage to the rim and it’s not a big clean up. I’ve used it and the mechanic said it was all pushed against the tire, minimal clean up. IIRC, I needed a new TPMS sensor, which was no big deal.

If I had time and a safe place, I’d do a full plug. If not, the goo kit is quick and easy.

Welcome to the new world. I grew up in place where there was a shortage of everything in stores, so people kept spares for anything important. My wife calls me a hoarder sometimes, but sure came handy when COVID hit, or when she blew a tire. It also saves money by buying stuff when there is a good deal, rather than when I need it next day.

I might just follow up on what @bsclywilly mentioned, and for the temporary tire just pick up a refurbished one - it's job is to be a spare tire, even previously patched up it's better than a donut spare.

Even with a spare I will normally opt for a tow if I can as opposed to changing a tire on the side of the road as it’s not safe.

the goo kit can get you out of jam if the puncture is in the tread area, it is useless for sidewall cuts. I would refrain from using it unless there were no other options.
the biggest issue is finding a replacement tire when out travelling in the boondocks.

Exactly - I’ve got plenty of spare tires and wheels in my garage but absolutely useless with a flat miles from home - the whole point of a donut and seriously, have we gotten to the point where people are scared to change their tire! And before someone goes there, with the right jack the cars weight not an issue.

You can’t use anything if the cut is in the sidewall, so it’s not a matter of choice. Tow is your only option in that case.

Respectfully disagree - exactly why I have a spare in the car - had this exact experience.

I would guess that not many of us have the right jack or even know the proper jacking procedures
It is truly very straight forward - a lot of angst amongst many on the forum over this it appears who fear that somehow this car is that radically different to an ICE car in this respect. Yes its heavier and yes you need to be mindful of the battery, PCM config etc., but there are numerous rated portable jack options to safely lift a corner of this vehicle (have a thread on this with examples), but indeed to each their own.

I just personally can't fathom the idea of sitting around waiting on a tow truck when all thats required is swapping a wheel out to get you to the nearest full replacement. Not meant in any way as a criticism just a bit baffling having changed tires on and off (a lot!) road for 40 years w/o any issues and most def not depending on a 3rd party to show up :)!
