do we know if it's compatible with 3rd party cams? and does it include prewiring for a rear cam (front & REAR was specifically listed in the description on the configurator for a short time)

As I understand it, the Porsche cams connect over Wi-Fi to the smartphone. Which means all they need is a wired connector that contains switched 12v, ground, and hopefully unstitched 12v. There will be some tiny markings on the connector indicating the manufacturer and connector model. This will enable identification of the mating connector required to make a jumper harness to power aftermarket cameras.

It’s not clear if the rear camera connects to the front camera over Wi-Fi or if there is a separate harness running from the front camera to the back camera. Every dash cam I’ve seen uses a coax cable to connect the secondary camera to the primary.

I suspect there are a lot of Taycan owners to be, praying for a universal connection but I'm sure a workaround will be doable

From this manual, I would assume that pre-wire means that harness #5 from Figure 2 has been pre-installed in the car. It's a 3-pin connector, with both permanent and ignition positive 12V (and ground). I paid for the pre-wire but currently don't have the time, nor the garage space to get to permanently installing my dashcams (Blackvue, not Porsche). Having both switched and unswitched 12V wired to the mirror would save me half the work.

My guess is that it is a cable - WiFi would be unreliable and more battery drain.

This isn’t an automotive-grade connector, so the pre-wire could use something else.

Not yet. Other priorities. The temporary install I put in for my trip home from the dealer is still in place. Those temporary solutions tend to have a long life.
