Not sure where you read that ACC was bad, it actually quite serviceable. In fact, in some ways it is better than Autopilot right now because there's no phantom braking (2021 Taycan).
This ("there's no phantom braking") is emphatically not true in my MY22 CT.

It got so bad I wore a GoPro, drove to the dealership (an approx 40 minute journey) and caught 3 instances of it happening on video, including one where the car attempted to decelerate from 120 to 30 on a motorway [1]

I shared the video with Porsche over a month ago, and have not yet attempted to reproduce the problem.

The video is , the three phantom braking chapters in the video are clearly marked.

[1] I checked -- on the stretch of motorway it happened there were no 30 signs on exit lanes, or similar.

It looks like you are using Innodrive? I'm not sure because I don't have it. If you are, then it looks to me that Innodrive is to blame here, not ACC. They are two different systems. Innodrive attempts to read road signs and adjust your speed based on that. ACC simply uses radar to look for cars ahead of you and adjust your speed based on traffic. With pure ACC, you could theoretically set your ACC to 60 mph in a 30 mph zone and the car would drive you at 60 mph assuming there are no cars ahead of you.

To be clear, "phantom braking" specifically refers to Tesla's Autopilot braking the car because it thinks there is an obstacle in front of the car when there isn't. The common culprit is a shadow on the ground.

You're right about that -- I should have been more precise.

So what are we calling "Car brakes incorrectly because it's using the wrong speed limit", if not "phantom braking"?

My Taycan has ACC (which is bundled with lane keep assist). I keep it on all the time. Its fine though it moves back and forth in the lane more than Tesla auto-steer in my model Y.

That said, I have had two bad experiences with the Tesla auto steer (almost accidents) and so I don't use it much (I estimate I use it two to three minutes a week).

The lane keep assist in both the Taycan and Tesla are not very reliable. I find that they lose the lane markers easily. It would be nice if both cars would actually warn you if you are leaving a lane, but with both cars, its not reliable.

I have had phantom braking in my Tesla once over 16,000 miles, and this was pretty scary. I don't have Innodrive so I guess I don't have the ability to experience phantom braking in the Taycan.

mine has always worked fantastic, so don't know how it can improve? I use it all the time in and out of traffic and it keeps it in the lane, brings it to a full stop, restarts and I have confidence in it. The only time it has not worked is with extremely salty roads where they have been basically all white and it can't pick up on the lines, or in snow for the same reason. It even slows me down to a safe speed while going on clover-leafs and off ramps. No complaints.

Ok!
Sad that Porsche showroom test drive vehicles dont have it, so its impossible to test even before ordering.

I had a 2020 Turbo with Innodrive. I have just confirmed my new GTS spec with ACC but no Innodrive. I think Cruise is essential, ACC is a big improvement, ALK (included with Innodrive) a nice-to-have. But, Innodrive is not my thing and seems to have flaws, so I dropped it and accept the loss of ALK. In fact, ALK surprised me early one morning when I wasn't 100% awake by "bumping" me back into the centre of a single carriageway. I reacted and then it re-acted again, creating an un-nerving wobble. I also found Innodrive to occasionally slow down due to a perceived (but phantom) change in speed limit which is annoying. I also don't really want a very driveable, safe and stable car like the Taycan automatically slowing down for corners or changes in the road that I am perfectly capable of judging for myself.

Key point: If you have ACC you can purchase an Innodrive upgrade. So, if Innodrive improves, you change your mind or you are later selling on to someone who wants it, the option remains.
(FWIW, my view on Comfort Access is the same. You can buy it later - for a small premium - if you really want it)

If ACC equipped ALK is available in the FoD with free trial time. Maybe the best combination (Sweetspot). InnoDrive is a waste of money recently.

I had both as a free trial. I don’t think I really want them. However both are on my account as to be activated but still active in my car since may. Didn’t pay anything but the functions are active. Same for 7 GB data for a month. Tried and payed it once during the holidays. Canceled after one month. Somehow I still get 7 GB a month but I am not charged for it. It will go in for a the update next week. Wonder if it still is active after that. I am not going to pay for it. Switched of ALK anyway and I don’t use PID functionality. The ACC I use every day.
