Having people touch my car would be a nightmare. Specifically, folks who don't know how to open the doors of the Taycans. Its a bit unnerving. I've had to train my teenagers how to do it.

All I know is that when I drop my kids off at their school, folks regularly struggle with the door handle when it's not extended. (we have one of those "drive through drop-offs" and teachers/school staff open the doors for the kids).

Not saying it's that difficult... but I can imagine that there might be situations where even a split second wasted trying to figure out another type of door handle is a split second that didn't need to be spent on that.

It's the same with the acoustic glass: there are special tools to take care of that type of glass. But now you're moving from "anybody knows how to break this glass" to "you'd better have a tool like that".

I am going to fit a wood burning stove in mine.

Mainly to upstage the Tesla screen app but also in case the heater fails.
Will be handy to make coffee if charging somewhere without a cafe, which I haven't done yet but may.

That would probably be because the doors are locked, and unlocking needs to be initiated from inside. For the non-driver doors, it takes 2 pulls on the door pull, or a "deep" one (there is a detente which is the 'unlock' stop, and I find that most people stop at that one). You most certainly would not want someone from outside to be able to open the door with the car merely stopped.

It is. Same here:

I've set it to unlock when I hit Park - so the doors SHOULD be unlocked.

But this whole thing starting a thread is my point: we're arguing about how this thing behaves in a Taycan forum. I don't think rescue workers/firefighters do this research for all the new cars.

The standard door on any run of the mill F150 or any other "commodity car"? They are all the same: clear obvious way to grab it (not retracted) and simply pull to open.

The fully flush ones (Tesla, Rivian, Range Rover, jaguar, Aston have all had cars that have that among others) are probably even worse.

Anyway, I don't think it's a huge issue - I just find it funny that people anchor on "does this thing catch fire" (Which can be easily observed and confirmed or rejected via data) vs smaller changes that could impact survivability but nobody can objectively say whether they matter or not.

(I assumed, but I should have asked.)

Nah, they usually cut the roof off. Or just smash the windows. <insert funny GrandTour skit on the jaws of life>. (Oh, there it is: Stop cutting the roof of my car | conversation street | Clarkson, Hammond and May | The Grand Tour - YouTube)

There's this video of a driver that somehow crashes his BMW into the median and the car catches fire. Driver is unresponsive, bystanders end up smashing the window and pulling him out. (I assume the driver had a medical emergency or was completely smashed).

The car was catching fire quickly - in that scenario, bystanders struggling with acoustic glas and unfamiliar door mechanisms is not ideal.

My problem with the training how to function in the car is the seat adjustment… one or both of my kids has broken the forward/backward button twice I am on my second one.. the design of that is horrific you have to buy the whole module and they make it impossible to repair correctly.
