I'm working up the courage (for the second time) to install a mirrortap for my V1 in the new GTS.

I was thinking, while I am in here it might be a good idea to also do a FitcamX dash cam.

But that got me thinking: rain sensor, FitcamX and V1 all on the same circuit?
Can it bear that without blowing a fuse?

Is anyone else tapping two devices at the same time off that rain sensor?

Hate to say this but you might be sailing into uncharted waters. I've seen nobody mention tapping two devices into the mirror wiring.

I guess it requires putting on the electrician hat and calculating the combined power draw from both devices at the same time and

1. Figuring out if that will compromise the function of either device while driving

2. Any splice/hack job will inadvertently draw power from the car while off and brick the 12V battery.

Also the FitXcam comes pre-wired with Porsche compatible harness plugs allowing complete plug and play into the stock mirror and front rain sensor wiring harnesses. No idea how adding a V1 will complicate that.

Indeed would prob need to look at the specs re draw etc - that said, whilst not relevant to the Porsche setup, I did do a combined mirror tap of a Blackvue dash cam and an Escort Max on my BMW M4 mirror assembly and it worked flawlessly for years.

I suppose the worst that can happen is a blown fuse if I over-drive the circuit.

I'll be installing the FitCamX and a V1, but I've opted to go with the Savvy OBD2 from V1 as the power source.

Previously I had always hardwired the V1 with a wire tap or fuse box connection, but I did the Savvy in the wife's M5 and I love it because you can set it to automatically mute below a certain mph. So I have it set to mute all signals below 45mph for our area. I'm much happier using it as an install means vs a standard hardwired solution because of that feature.

Just an idea/input.

I believe GTS comes with a thermally insulated glass. Is it interfere with a reception?

I dont think you should tap anything off an existing circuit. So easy just to run a new circuit from the drivers side fusebox, up the a-pillar. This ought to be a sticky by this point:

Do you have any recommendations on how to remove the A pillar?

When I installed my dashcam I did not remove the A pillar at all but just routed at the edge and through the rubber seal in the door; this can all be done by just pushing with your fingers and a plastic tool and that way nothing needs to be removed. You can see the wire at two spots now but in practice it is almost invisible (on the photo you see it better due to the flash), and you can uninstall it easily as well. Also, removing the A-pillar may not be too hard but it is a bit scary as it contains an airbag (I think?).

Also, if you also have thermally insulated glass, it turned out I needed to install the dashcam in the dotted area to get GPS reception... not sure if the fitcamx is positioned high enough for this?

Here is how I installed it along the A-pillar (with fuse taps on the passenger side):

Is that a BlackVue dash cam? I've had issues with my BlackVue interfering with my key fob being recognized by the car and sending out an error code which stops certain features of the car being functional. I had my dash cam on the right side for a while but then positioned in the center just below the car camera. I am going to try that again and see if that fixes the issue.

Yes, a 900x plus. I read your thread but I have had no troubles with interference myself. Who knows, maybe repositioning helps as signals might "bounce" on the glass now??

(Btw, when I repositioned my camera, removing was a bit tricky (slowly forced it loose), and I needed to use turpetine to remove glue residue, worked great though!)

Thank you, I tried repositioning the camera to where you have yours and still have the same error! At this point I’m giving up. Perhaps my next dashcam will not have the same interference!

Did the GTS come with Porsche dashcam pre-wire? I presume that would be a separate power circuit which you could tap (assuming you can find it of course, so far I have not seen any pictures posted anywhere of what it looks like).

No idea. It wasn’t listed as a feature on the sticker.

@DerekS , if it was me I would definitely check this out before going through the trouble of V1 installation. Quickest way is to drive to a supermarket with a door opener which triggers your V1 (turn off all filtering, A mode IIRC). Stop the car facing the radar source, then hold the detector where you plan to mount it, note the signal strength (ideally stop where it's 50% or less), then open the window and hold the detector out the window facing the same direction, not the difference in signal strength. Repeat by parking facing away from the source to get rear signal attenuation.

I had V1 in first Tesla Model S. Then in the second one after a while I realize my detector was performing very poorly and all the alerts came from the front direction. After doing the above test, I realized the newer Tesla has some coating reducing the signal by 80% from the front, even more from the back. Had to go with remote mount, but that got me laser jamming too, so planning to do remote on the Taycan too, even if V1 would work, though I might go fancy and run both, remote and V1, pending on whether or not I can find enough time to implement such an integration (so low likelyhood, but possible). I even thought of mounting the V1 on top of the roof or roof rail for best, unhindered reception.
