@JTZen, thank you! That's all I needed. I'm going to do them this weekend. I'm putting in an older Valentine one Gen 1, but I may switch/upgrade to the Uniden over time as I read they're better for the photo speed cameras we have all over Chicago.
They Taycan is new to me, and I'm switching from a 911, so I'm finding the Taycan to be (a) an awesome vehicle, and (b) enormous in size 🤣🤣
Okay, I'll stop thread-hijacking. Happy to hear confirmation I could use the circuit for both power needs.

@MidwestPCar - I haven't had any issues so far. TBH, I connected my phone to the camera once after setup and it was working and then I've forgotten about it since. Since there's no screen, there's no obvious indication whether it's working. It crossed my mind a few days ago that I should check. If I do and there's a problem, I'll let you know, but right now, everything seems fine and the radar detector is working pretty well. I was concerned about the insulated glass, so I used an aftermarket stick-on mount from ebay to get it up as high and tight to the mirror as possible. It still gets KA alerts. I basically haven't heard any K or X band ones but I'm not sure if that's just the good filtering (Uniden R8) or the glass. Hope this helps and good luck! (Not sure if it's new to you - but it's by FAR the best vehicle I've ever owned. Nearly perfect. Hope you're enjoying yours.)

Hi all,

Question on the operation of the FitCamX - say your car is parked and locked up. Then you decide to plug the car into your home charger. Given that plugging the car into a charger kind of 'wakes it up', does the FitCamX then also switch on and commence recording until you stop charging the car?

I have a looooot of video from inside my garage when plugged in to my home charger. So, I believe yes.

Hmmmm..........that's rather annoying!!! Thanks for the clarification. Has it every caused issues with draining of the 12V battery?

I’m in the middle of installing my cam and running into the same issue a lot of people mention — getting the center/middle plastic trim piece back in place. The space is super tight and the wiring feels too thick to tuck neatly.

For those who’ve done this successfully, where exactly did you route or tuck the wires? No matter how I try, I can’t seem to get that “seamless” look I see in other installs. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I have to remove the orange tab holding all together in case of crash.
Then it is easier and I guess not a super risky thing to do but not recommended.

Thank you for all the blood, sweat, and tears shed in this thread as you all figured out the best way to install. Meant I only needed to shed both sweat and blood (literally) to get mine installed lol 😅 punctured the pad of my thumb getting the rear view mirror assembly back on, nothing crazy. Thankfully the entire install only took around 20 min -- again, thanks to all the trial and error details in this thread that I read cover-to-cover.

I ordered mine on amazon, which is why I must've gotten the weird "bulbus" casing batch shown off in this thread and earlier here as well, oh well, I'll live.

A couple extra tips after having gone through it:
  • For me, it was much easier to plug in the camera to the rain sensor power while the mirror assembly was still off. I tried doing it after putting the mirror back on like in the video, but for the life of me couldn't wiggle it back in the right spot. Took the mirror back off and it was plugged in in 5 sec.
  • Related to the above, and in general, definitely try to do the install without skipping the step of taking the mirror assembly off. It really feels like you're going to break it, especially before you get the back casing off and can see the mechanism holding it on the window, but just turn counterclockwise with confidence and you'll be fine.
Overall really happy, seems to be working well so far.

Just got the OK from the Porsche Center to install it and keep my warranty valid.
Of course it they suspect it will interfere with an issue I will have to (let them) remove it..

Just installed mine. The hardest part during during removing was the very from piece and hardest part putting things back was the middle piece.... Took sometime to make sit flush.

I used those 2 videos that were posted here.

Read all 16 pages. Good advise on the thread. But I still have challenges.

I installed the camera, and can deal with all aspects, except one. I cannot get the camera itself it sit tightly against the glass. No matter how I push or wiggle.

The camera housing has two tracks that slide along the metal mirror base, those are engaged. But I can't push it the last 2mm and it does not click into place. I've tried different placement of the wires, etc.

The antenna, was unstuck and I ended up moving and resticking it where it doesnt seem to interfere with the install. I've moved the power wire to all kinds of different locations, end result is the same. (this picture shows it at the top, perhaps not the best location, but same results when it weas coming out other places.

Suggestions, others have similiar experience? (The middle was a PITA, but nothing compared to the camera!)

One way to easy any plastic part removal, and also to reduce its chances of breakake is to use a hair dryer (not a heat gun) and pre warm the part before trying to plastic pry too remove it. As is clear from the above successes, a second person coupled with pre-heating would make the install easier.

Think that will help putting it back on?
