AC/DC losses are commonly 10% loss - 11,000 watts (11kw) is an 1,100 watt loss just for the AC/DC conversion overhead

the OBC is the ac/dc converter that changes ac power to the dc power required by the battery - the overhead in this conversion is inline with nominal industry expectations - 7% loss is best case under ideal conditions and narrow use cases…10% is about the best everyone can do in terms of loss for this type of battery charging
Not to mention feeding the Taycan gremlins :p

Is it possible to lose 1.1 kW between the EVSE and the car? That would be a lot of heat to dissipate -- 1100W is a hair dryer on full blast.
No, that approximately 10% is lost between the EVSE and the battery stored energy - EV battery charging efficiency is about 90%. Some of it is lost between the EVSE and the car, but most of it is lost in the OBC and the battery itself. Notice that the cooling systems are always going when charging (which also consumes power), and the battery heats up too.

From my experience with my ‘20 Taycan, it draws just over 11 from the charger and reports between 10.3-10.5 in the car. by my math thats very efficient.

Update: I have been monitoring my charging rate since I joined this conversation. I noticed last night that my rate was a little lower this time.

So in the last 30ish days or so, I have gone from 10.5 to 9.9 and now 8.5 😳

Porsche if you are listening, we need to talk!!!!!!

The deal is 40A now. Pray they don't reduce it further.

20A? 10A? At what point is it diminished value?

Not sure how many of you use the My Porsche App and know about the "garage" tab (upper right corner on my version of the app where you see an icon of a car in a garage) but I noticed today that Porsche has finally cleansed my car's charging specifications to eliminate the reference to the 11 kW OBC and replace it with the 9.6 kW OBC.

If you want to preserve that "evidence" and your app still tells you about that spec, screenshot it.

I am in litigation with Porsche Canada using the CAMVAP system and had flagged a whole series of places in the Canadian setting which established my car's 11 kW charging abilities. The litigation started 3 months ago or so. The Porsche Canadian inventory tools were also flagged by me and every 2025 and most 2026 Taycans had reference to "charging at home" at 11 kW from zero to a full charge within 11 hours, as well as vehicle specs that referenced the 11 kW OBC.

Cannot be sure it's because of my claim against them but at last this all appears to be cleaned up too.

Based on this suggestion previously, I did a screen shot on March 18th. See below. Now the specs are reformatted and only make reference to 9.6Kw.

after the update, car shows 8.5 kWs. Odd thing is, my Chargepoint show 9.2/9.3. (i'm on a 50/40 amp circuit). Guessing Chargepoint also shows the delivery speed.

Neh, the AC voltage is just lower, probably ~232V instead of 240V. Could be losses in the cable to the Chargepoint, or could me mains to your house are a bit lower when everyone is charging their vehicles, or running air conditioners, ovens, heaters, who knows. Some EVSE's will show you the voltage, not sure if Chargepoint does.

I'm still angry about this charger downgrade every day. 5 days a week I park at a commercial charger that can do 208v @ 48A and now my car charges slower.

You think you are angry going from 11kW to 9.6kW (or in this specific case 10kW to 8.3kW), think of people who paid for 19.2kW and getting force-downgraded to 9.6kW because Porsche decided it's cheaper this way.
