just wanted to make everyone aware of a crime going through London and especially around Mayfair area

as you exit the car or attend to your boot. Someone will silently pop a rear door open. When you lock the Taycan the mirrors fold but the hazards don’t blink if a door is open (you get a beep but it’s very quiet in the london sounds) The thief normally distracts you at this exact moment. You walk away from the car and the thief returns 10mins later and via the open rear door enters the car and boot via the ski hatch. They then close the door and leave.

you return to a fully locked and alarmed car confused how they got in.

edit: happened 9am on a Monday morning

Also unfortunately the Taycan unlocks all the doors when you exit the vehicle, what ever the setting

You car should not be beeping if a door is open when you lock. It doesn't for me. I know this because my I often lock the car as my wife is getting out of the car, knowing that the beep is coming once she closes the passenger door.

Unless you're saying the behavior is different for the rear doors? That would be poor design if so.

My car does not beep when I lock the doors, only if a door/boot is open. I have spoken to the dealer in Mayfair who confirmed that is how all Taycan are. At least this is the default setting….

You should set the car to only open the driver door if you are the only person in it. Then no one can surreptitiously open another door when you get out as they will, stay locked

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you.

You are correct in how the Taycan will beep if anything is open. I have the same in my 996 from 1999. Even if only the lid on the middle console is open will it beep. The signal that all is locked is that the car flashes twice when lovking it.

I guess once the rear dorr is open they could just enter the car and then pull down the rear seats to have access to the boot.

I also troed to lock my car when the passenger door is open by someone getting out. It will beep directly and only flash twice once the door is closed.

Unfortunately when you exit the car it unlocks all the doors whatever setting you have……

In theory, should the internal sensor alarm trigger? I know from many reports on this forum that damn sensor triggers all the time – but surely it would trigger in this case?

I appreciate that the alarm triggering often doesn't make a bit of difference.

Interesting, maybe this is a difference in European models vs US models. Here in the US, the car beeps twice when the car is locked. This means that if you "queue up" a lock command by pressing lock on the remote, but a door is open at the time, once the door is closed the beeps will happen (and the car will at that point lock, handles will fold in, etc.).

Beep on lock is a thing VW group enables for the North American market, but in Europe is very uncommon (because it's pretty noisy / annoying).

The alarm is only set once the the doors are closed and the hazards flash

I've been asking the same question, how to prevent that.

It should, but we are all disabling internal sensor, remember?

That's a nightmare.

Door locking via key / proximity should only open the programmed door(s) - driver, driver side, all - is this not your experience?
