Hello,
New Taycan owner here (2025 4S). I'm coming from a Tesla and loving the new driving experience (and build quality). But I do have some questions about the software/tech. I've tried to read through the manual, reddit, and this forum. I've also tried to do some testing. Any existing owner who understands all of the nuances please correct anything I think I know
Accounts/Settings/Fob/Numbers on the Door
Bluetooth/Phones
I haven't had the chance to research/test this as much. It appears that the active account has no relationship to the bluetooth devices. E.g. if the car is on account "Alice", it could connect to "Bob's" phone (even if Alice's phone is there as well, depending on how well the bluetooth is working between Alice/Car vs. Bob/Car). It's also unclear to me how the dynamic state of the device connections intertwines with account settings. For example, if both Alice and Bob use Carplay and Alice is active and you switch the account to Bob what happens? Nothing? Or does Bob take over Carplay? What if Alice uses Carplay and Bob uses bluetooth and you switch from Alice to Bob (does his bluetooth take over?) or Bob to Alice (does her Carplay take over?).
I do know you can have multiple phones connected at the same time. I've read that all connected phones will be used to answer incoming calls through the car, but only one phone will be used to make outgoing calls. Though this might not apply if one of the phones is actively using CarPlay (I see a reference that only one phone will work in this situation)? Otherwise, I found the preferred phone setting, which I believe is the same as the star shortcut in the device list? One thing I don't get yet is the little numbers next to the phones (lower right). For me, if there is only one phone it's always a 1 (either phone). But if there are multiple phones one phone has a 1 and the other a 2. But what's weird is it's consistently the same number on the phone no matter which order I connect the phones but the phone with the little 1 is NOT the preferred/starred phone. I wonder if this was the order I connected them to the car originally?
One problem I've been having is the car aggressively/continuously connects to all phones and immediately transfers music or calls on a new connection. This has happened when pulling into my driveway, or in the garage when sitting down in the car to leave (in both cases the other person's phone connected from the house, and started coming out of the car speakers). This is very confusing for the person in the house, it seems like the phone has stopped working/dropped the call. I haven't seen a way to put a stop to it easily. I also don't see a quick action to take in the car if it happens. Instead it's a multi-click fix (home menu, then devices, then click the newly connected phone to disable it). And even after the click it takes several seconds to disconnect the phone. This isn't new to the Taycan, though the range seems to have increased from the Tesla.
Other Odds and Ends
The native navigation search is pretty bad, but if you click the "G" on the top it switches to "online serach" (I assume Google) and that's fine. But it's an odd default to choose, and made me suspicious of the quality of the built-in nav.
I haven't been able to get the two finger reset to work. Either I'm doing it wrong, or that feature has been removed from newer versions of the PCM?
Any recommendations for the user assignable buttons? I like "previous track" for the one on the steering wheel, as it has nice symmetry for the "next track" below it. For the one on the right of the instrument panel, I've been bouncing around parking features. Either to turn on the camera (a forward pull-in can have a long delay) or to mute the proximity alarms (which are very jarring, and start at what seems like a far distance).
Thanks in advance for any help or tips!

Accounts/Settings/Fob/Numbers on the Door
- The car has user accounts (Porsche IDs). Each driver should have an account. Each car can have one primary account and multiple secondary accounts. Accounts may or may not have remote access (primary has to?)
- All of the car settings are per account (is this true, or are there some "global" car settings?). The car settings are saved as you change them (is this true, or is there some action you have to take to ensure you've saved it?). From my testing the following settings are per account: ergonomics (mirror/steering wheel/seat), climate, displays (like the state of the instrument cluster), drive (like lane assist), media (like Spotify login), etc... I have yet to find a setting that isn't per account, which is why my guess is "all".
- Fobs are associated with an account. Explicitly unlocking a locked car with a fob will set that account as active. The automatic unlock that happens when walking up to the car with a single fob will set that account as active. There is no guarantee which account is selected if multiple fobs are near the car when an automatic unlock occurs. If the car chooses incorrectly, you either have to press lock then unlock on a fob, or change the account in the PCM (upper right).
- The door has numbers 1/2/3. This number ONLY stores/loads ergonomic settings (mirror/steering wheel/seat), and nothing else. You can store the current ergonomics by pressing "set" then "number" (1, 2, or 3). You can restore ergonomics by pressing the number (just press, or press and hold?)
- The door number settings and account settings are independent of each other. This means you can adjust ergonomic settings without storing them into a door number, but they will still be persistent like any other account setting. (but it seems like a good idea to save my ergonomic settings in a door number in case account level ergonomic settings get changed accidentally, as then I could just push the number to get it back).
- As noted above there is a walk up unlock feature, but no walk away lock (with the minor exception that if you walk up to the car, and then away again, it will lock itself after a short period of time).
