New PCM update and it’s ugly android style buttons.

I was excited to get my Taycan back after being updated, only to be completely deflated by the PCMs new look. Ugly red, blue, and green home buttons. Why!? It looked great before.

I wish we had a choice, like all the choices we have in the configurator...
I like the old look better.
Never had any issue with the PCM before so this update is a downdate for me.
I also lost the workaround for the passenger display to stay on while driving.
I don't have the homelink button while camera is active like others.
I really haven't noticed a single improvement.
Ok, my sound is a bit louder but that's just it.
Very disappointing...

You must either have been very very lucky or just not having used the features that have proved troublesome. And I think you also got one of the earliest cars delivered.

I just can not understand how Porsche have been able to deliver so different quality on their systems. I have changed Gateways two or three times. LTE module twice and some other units in the system a few times. It was a regular trip to the workshop every two months with a failed unit. It went so far that Porsche France even had one of their specialist together with a development engineer looking after my car!

And I do love the new coloured icons. The old style was too boring for me.

But most of all I love the fact that the car now works just as it should have done from day one. Plus some improvements as well. Remote control of the installed features, the app, statistics etc.

The car is fantastic to own imo.

There were quite a few problems with the PCM and Porsche seem to have fixed nearly all of them in just one major update.
This wasn't generally expected to happen for 2020/21 cars. So I for one am delighted it is.

Obviously people find other things they aren't happy with now.

Very few people who were complaining about all the bugs come on here to say they are pleased with all the improvements.

Thats just how car forums are.

It beats having the terribly buggy PCM that didn't work right most of the time.

I dunno if I'd go that far. The new PCM uPdate also has problems. Spotify/Apple music not allowing registration and SmartLift is now broken. I'm sure there are others.

I used to see this before the recent update. Now, CarPlay starts pretty much as soon as I get in the car.
BUT I do see a delay if my wife is in the car: I get the pop up to pick which phone to select as the source for the PCM. This happens maybe 50% of the time. I bet this is another software bug where the PCM doesn't use the previous selected device but randomly sees devices in the car as they are detected and if the first detected device is not the previous used device, pops up the message to pick the device to use.

I work as a designer so maybe I’m easily unsettled by such things but the Taycan has been my safe place to free my brain and soak up the beautiful, subtle ambiance Porsche has provided.

Will this change? Please say it will. I’ve gone from a 150k car to feeling like I’m in something from Fisher Price.

I know I’m being dramatic… but bummed none the less.

Had my Taycan over 2 years, just got the update. Mine looks great. Coloured buttons - long overdue. Mine looked dull and lacklustre before. What were Porsche thinking? A Colour display with mono buttons. On a new car? Why?

Will it change? Hopefully more colour. Still way too many mono buttons for me.. I like colour - easier to target with less effort.

I guess the moral here is they can't please everyone. At least the pleased me

It would be just nice if the icon color can be configured in the car settings, it's extremely easy to implement and will make everyone happy. but yeah there must be tons of things they have to fix/improve, and this can live on their backlog.

LTE-controller replaced two times but I don't consider that as a PCM issue cuz it was a controller failure instead of actual PCM software failure.
Bugs were solved with updates.
Still, I was able to set charging times etc.
Minor inconvenience.

Be patient, you will soon be able to participate actively in the Taycan Forum of First World Problems. Seriously, I think we all love to vent about things Porsche could have done better, but these are great problems to have. Waiting 13 months for a new Porsche is also a great problem to have (sure beats having a psychopath threatening to nuke your homeland).
